I immigrated to this country in the 1950's. I have no guilt, as a Latino of European origin. I suspect most Americans have a family history that starts AFTER the period of slavery.
Why should I accept guilt??
I am pretty proud of America. It did right many wrongs. It fought the bloodiest war in history (up to that time) to eliminate slavery.
Why should I feel guilty about that??
Racism is awful, but America has done better by it than most other countries.
You're absolutely correct, problems that need to be address head on by the community in which are facing those problems....with a large percent of those problems self inflicted by the community themselves!
Let me guess
You think "those people" aren't part of "your" community.
Look, someone who really wants to understand the issue will be willing to be open to looking into it. Others will come up with an excuse like you have.
And that's human nature. If you gave me a list of 10 right wing conservative sources to read about some topic, I would just tell you that I've been down road before and I'm not interested.
And this is not at all unlike the "take a knee" protests. I don't care if someone thinks the protests are good or bad, or appropriate or inappropriate. But what I do care about is when someone who is against the protests misstate what the protests are about or claim to have no idea what they are about. It's very easy to learn the stated purpose of those protests. But it's easier and more self-serving to misstate what they are about.
The Hospital where I work is 90% female and this includes Doctors in the count but Docs alone would be about 50/50 male female.
Almost all the white male docs are old nearing retirement or have retired in the last couple of years.
Half the Docs are women as mentioned and about the largest group of Docs have roots to India and then Asian and Persian... of the Registered Nurses the staff is 2/3 with roots to the Philippines plus Chinese, Vietnam, Pacific Islander... etc... several of the top surgeons are African American but they are nearing retirement... very few African American RN's...
If there is a White Male dominance you would be hard pressed to find it looking a many of the Hospitals around SF and East Bay Hospitals...
New Grad RN earn about 100k the first year... just saying.
It could just be the city I call home is more diverse and it shows...
Rhetoric? Vilifying? Setting all that aside, aren't you concerned that the deck is, and has been for hundreds of years, stacked against certain people, just because they were born into certain communities, of certain ethnicities?
I can't be concerned about something that's not true! This is a big world, and there is no race that has had the deck stacked against it worldwide for hundreds of years.
