Why must there be "white guilt" to resolve racism and inequality ?
Is it not possible to empower people without vilifying other people? Isn't that a little ironic ?
"hey, life's not fair, let us make it fair, by playing unfair".
Am I the only white person that is complete exhausted from having this rhetoric everywhere, where I have to now feel guilty for the plight of a group of people when I have my own adversities to overcome, but apparently who cares about my adversity. my "people" who I have nothing to do with started this country I now live in so now I have to take on their sins. What is this? some twisted warped version of Catholicism?
you are born with sin and now, if you are born white, you are born with sin and some.
what are we getting that is important from perpetuating white guilt ?
You don't "have to" feel guilty. The sooner you realize that, the better for you. People who want you to feel guilty are selling something.
It's time to get over the "sins of thy fathers" and look for solutions to the present mess.
That makes sense BUT it seems like most on the right want to get over the "sins of thy fathers" and NOT "look for solutions to the present mess". In other words...the worst of both worlds.
I am White. I am not racist. Nor do I feel guilty.
There. I have done my fair share.
I agree that guilt isn't the only possible emotional response but it's probably gonna take a bit more than not being actively racist to fix systematic racism.
Jews fleeing pogroms and Holocaust? You mean the boatload of them the US refused to let in? Jews in the US have always had an easier time climbing up the ladder. Not without flack, but still, they were able to get a piece of the pie. The Irish and Italians have made it, though not without an initially rough time. And btw, the Irish working class tried to prevent Black workers from joining the unions. They succeeded for awhile.
.
All that.
As I always told my kids, where in the fine print does it say"life is fair?"
FWIIW, I marched with Rev Martin Luther King in 1963 until I started College. I continue to work hard for equality.
But, what can be done today in the murder capitol of the world, Chicago? And, the many other places in the US? That is the only question that we should be asking!

IDK, ban guns? No, guns don't kill people, people kill people. Um...ban people? No, wait.... Gimme a minute, while I figure this thing out....
Every Black person and person of color I know, doesn't want or need "white guilt." If fact, "white guilt" is something made up in the minds of white people.
What is needed is awareness, understanding, and taking responsibility for one's part in a racist system and the perpetuation of racism.
That's just the point. I have not seen any concrete proof of a Racist system in almost 20 years.........quite the opposite......

I would really like some concrete examples of "systemic racism"??
