folks -

I'm interested specifically in the rock climbing and skiing opportunities in and around the Ft. Collins area. Do most skiers make the long trek to Steamboat Springs or other resorts along I-70? What do climbers do?

Anyone with some good outdoor recreation knowledge please fill me in.

cheers!

The closest ski area is Eldora in Nederland, around an hour and a half drive. I ski there on weekdays and meet people from Ft. Collins often. I met a woman on the lift recently who told me they usually go to Snowy Range in WY. I don't know anything about it or how far away it is though.
Next closest is Loveland - about a 2 hour drive.

Snowy Range, like Lake Eldora, is an old school ski area, not resort. Its rather isolated location can make getting there treacherous. The wind often blows fiercely all the way from the Laramie Foothills up into the Snowy Range, causing whiteout conditions, even when its not snowing.
