When my kids were tiny and learning to eat, I'd give them Cheerios. Now, at 2 and 6, they're not really into cold cereal let alone kid cereal. The 2 yr old loves grits and oatmeal. The 6 yr old is more of a toast, pancake or waffles kid.

I don't think it's how the US treats us, it's how we choose to support bad behavior with our dollars. If we (collectively) didn't support the companies that produce these "foods" they'd go out of business. I hope that acceptance declines as knowledge spreads.

Apparently I'm the only one not really bothered by this. My kids eat all different kinds of cereal - sugared, no sugar, less sugar. They don't care. they don't eat copious amounts and they have a pretty varied diet. I remember when I was younger, I longed for the sweet cereals b/c my mom would only let me have them at xmas. I'd go crazy and sometimes overeat just b/c I was so happy to have it. My kids think it's no big deal. I prefer that.

also, it's been medically proven that sugar DOES NOT make children (or adults) hyper. Circumstances and environment do.

I was never allowed anything with more sugar in it than Honey Nut Cheerios... that is the same I give to my kids... I only bring in Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes, and Honey Nut Cheerios. They know not to ask for anything with more sugar than that. If they want it they get it when they spend the night at the grandparents... it is a treat. Not at MY house...
