sandwich
1 a : two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between
b: one slice of bread covered with food
Have an open-faced sandwich, with one slice of bread instead of two, mustard instead of butter, and some vegetable sticks to munch on.
I have open-faced sandwich all the time with one slice of bread.

According to the above definition, a sandwich can be made of bread or roll. A bagel is close to a roll so I'd consider a bagel with filling being a sandwich.

A hostess cupcake and a jelly donut are sandwiches?

It is a rather convoluted system but I like it, haha

PS - I'm going with classifying several of the options as 'hand pies', a very useful term IMO.

I somehow don’t think of the court Cases concerned the nature of a sandwich so much as the nature of the desiring businesses.

I used to think that way too, until I tried the Danish open-faced sandwiches. I now prefer a one-slice sandwich over the two-slices of bread.
