I would so love to see your garden and kitchen setup - so impressive. I've seen your pics in gardening, but I mean up close and personal.

Pretty much everything happens on our butcher block island. From prepping garden harvest for freezing or canning to making salami, brats, butchering- everything. For the soup I needed carrots, onions and garlic I harvested from the garden. Garlic, fresh ginger root, chopped jalapeno and halapeno.. Pulled pork ready in a bowl.. Everything gets prepped and put in piles on the butcher top and then into the pot when called for.

My son has called dibs on it when we're gone. He says "if this wood could talk it would tell the story of our lives"

Truly a wonderful set of skill sets Threerun. I wouldn't necessarily want all the work, but would love to learn how to do all of it.

I picked up the skills from my family. We were pretty low income for a while but mom and dad grew up on farms, knew how to can and butcher and garden. I picked up a lot thru osmosis. My wife really got into gardening when we bought our first house (before kids) and then again after the kids got older so we picked up gardening where we left off. I've always butchered game and hogs and made my own burger, salami, brats. Getting that custom made is SPENDY..

Really we don't have to do all this any longer, but we both like to do it. Spending time together in the kitchen is better than sitting on the couch.
