This morning I put a pound of soaked pinto beans in the slow cooker along with a small chopped onion, some chopped jalapeños, some cut summer sausage lengths, because I had no ham that I usually use, then I salted and peppered it all to taste. Tonight I cooked a pan of yellow Texas cornbread to have along with the beans and sausage. Umm, umm good!

I made another Big Salad — baby spinach, iceberg, green leaf, endive, celery, red cabbage, sunflower seeds, bacos, and crumbled saltines with buttermilk-dill dressing.
We have both been thinking of French Onion soup,with a bubbling, crisp brown topping that is a mix of Gruyere, Jarlsberg, and Asiago cheeses, topped with thick slices of French bread.
Sweet and sour baby beet salad with a tangy clove and cardamom dressing.
Berries and tapioca pudding.
