so are you supposed to refrigerate it? Mama never did. I don't. Am I gonna die anytime soon?
no refrigeration required, just keep it air tight in a glass jar. people back in the olden days used animal fat as a means to preserve food aside from salt.
The smell, first of all.
The squeaky weird texture.
The chemically-laden aftertaste.
Also, did I mention the smell?
I did not grow up in the US so popcorn was never a part of my social fabric or relevance growing up. That is probably a part of it too.
Have you tried just plain popcorn & popped it in a pan with a lid on top of the stove? It doesn't have all the chemicals microwave popcorn does. My DD would eat popcorn about every night growing I didn't like it that much.

Maybe you've only had movie popcorn? And people are talking about some horrible microwave popcorn too.
Popcorn doesn't have any chemically-laden aftertaste; it is just corn kernals. It will have some butter or oil and some salt. It smells good. It does squeak when you chew but that shouldn't be a problem. Try some real popcorn!
I keep a small dish of strained bacon grease in the fridge to use for a few things. One thing that I noticed is that just a teaspoon in vegetables is enough to add flavor. I would have normally used a tablespoon of butter, so I feel this is preferable.
Save it for when you make a big ol pot of beans in winter, put the bacon grease along with a hamhock in there.
