They fill pastry with a red bean paste that is sort of like the filling in a lemon square...but more dense. It is one of the most popular desert cakes in Japan....monju. Some times they are served hot hot hot off the grill that they bake them on.....or they can be room temp like a danish.
We have a Japanese supermarket here in the Pacific Northwest called Uwajimaya, and they make kurimanju and daifuku at their bakery that are very good!
Well I was wrong....he liked the B&M Boston style baked beans...said they reminded him of small red beans in Japan. I guess it is the pork and beans campbell style that he doesnt like
Ok, so we went to LOLA and this is what we had:
Appetizer..Beef Cheek Pierogi, which was like pot roast and a heavy dumpling with some kind of beef/wine sauce.
Huz had the hanger steak with Lola Fries, and some sort of pickled cabbage. He LOVED it.
I had a lamb dish which included 2 chops and a ground lamb pattie, sort of like what they make gyros out of. It had orzo and some kind of Mediteranean sauce.
For dessert we had a 6 AM Special, which was a french toast with apple, bacon ice cream and a maple sauce.
I wish I was more knowledgable about what exactly I was eating, but it was so dark in there I could barely read the menu. Sorry to disappoint you lovers of food porn with my basic descriptions.
The place is beautiful, quite festive and noisy, the food was presented beautifully, and the service was excellent.
If y'all ever go to Cleveland, Lola is right next to Hilarities, and House of Blues, and you can walk from Playhouse Sq.
On Saturday we had my cousin and her bf come over and my cousin and me tried some new small dishes:
Chicken saté sticks with two different kinds of marinade.
Kinda Turkish pizza with ground meat, onion, tomatoe, Feta cheese topping.
Cesar salad wraps.
Oven potatoes gratinated with salami, tomatoes and cheese.
I've had wraps for the first time and they were delicious. So I'm going to do them again today...
Happy Monday...all your meals have my mouth watering.
I haven't been doing anything exciting for meals but I am finding so many healthy ways to have some really good stuff. Just adding raspberries and blackberries to my cheerios is delicious. See??? Not so exciting....LOL
