Yes, I realize it's a NY Times article but apparently this isn't news to most of Florida's "news" outlets.

I'm sorry but I couldn't get past all the BS of the first paragraph of the editorial. And why is it you can't disagree with a policy without resorting to ad hominem attacks? Nothing like starting off your point by discrediting yourself.

And of course the NYT article doesn't tell us how many of the 2700 were actually not eligible to vote ... I guess the golf pro needs all the help he can get ... and not just with his golf game.

So are you for illegals, criminals, dead people voting?

How about the 53,000 who voted twice in 2008?
They voted in Florida and NY and that is just one state.

Scott and all the other Governors need to do this to assure MY and your vote counts and is not crossed out by some illegal criminal voting or some idiot who voted twice in two states.

How about all of the new voters who had their registration purged because their information didn't get to Tallahassee within 48 hours, not to mention the New Smyrna Beach teacher who was brought up on charges for signing up her 18 yo students to vote (like she has every year) under the new law and who's registrations were invalidated? Read up people and get the facts versus the pablum you're being fed about criminals, illegals and dead people voting. New Mexico ran a similar process addressed at eliminating "illegals" from the voting process and turned up a whopping 29 statewide. Meanwhile, there are considerable numbers of eligible voters (likely Democratic of course...hmm) who are being denied process or forced to go through many extra steps to prove eligibility under Scott's law. Also worth noting rational, non-partisan organizations like the League Of Women Voters are in clear disapproval of the new law. Judge blocks part of "harsh" Florida voting law - Chicago Tribune

The local news had a story about this. A man that fought for this country, has voted since like the 40's in every election was on this list. Sometimes the government does stupid things. And this is one of them.

True, sometimes the government does stupid things. Sometimes the government makes mistakes. Sometimes the government allows people to vote who should not be allowed to vote. Isn't one of the many appropriate functions of government to do things like protect our borders, enforce the law, and protect the integrity of the voting process? YES...

So, when the government seeks to do its job, it is wrong when that effort affects illegal individuals who might also vote for a "Democrat"? IS THAT YOUR ARGUMENT? If you have a problem with what they are trying to do here, you have a problem with being way too partisan. We are talking about enforcing the law and that is all. Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and sometimes enforcing the law is not a case of political dirty tricks. It is beyond me how you can find a problem with making the voting process in Florida cleaner and more reliable. And, I sincerely hope that a Democrat governor would do the same.

Just to further clarify the discussion, if a voter goes to the polls and is challenged on their right to vote, here is information directly from the Secretary of State's website:

What happens if someone challenges my eligibility to vote at the polls?
If you are challenged on the basis that your legal residential address is not within the precinct, you will still have an opportunity to vote.
If you changed your address within the same county and your new address places you in the same precinct, you will be asked to complete an address update change at the polls and then you can vote a regular ballot (assuming you are otherwise eligible).
If your new legal residential address falls outside the precinct, you will be directed to the precinct that corresponds to your new address if time permits to go and vote there.
If you have moved from one county to the next, you will not be able to make the address change at the polls but you will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot. Provided you are eligible and registered and you voted in the precinct that corresponds to your new address, your provisional ballot will count.
If you do not execute the address change or you insist on voting in the precinct, you will allowed to vote a provisional ballot.
If you are challenged on any other grounds or your eligibility is questioned, you will be allowed to vote a provisional ballot.

The notion that anyone is being disenfranchised seems to be totally erroneous or blown way out of proportion.

Even the right wingers know what Scott's REAL agenda is-party like it's the year 2000 . Sorry, Rick-people are on to you this time. Maybe you can declare martial law in November and still pull it off.

Exactly...those defending his actions are clearly satisfied with the outcome and the sketchy methodology utilized.
