South Florida isn't crime ridden? Huh?? South Florida isn't racist? Maybe not most people here, but my family is white Cuban and a lot of them are very racist towards black people it makes me sick to my stomach. There's racists everywhere. Stop acting like S. Florida is a beacon in an otherwise messed up state. South Florida is the worst part of it, at least Dade County. Broward is okay and Palm Beach is better.

South Florida is lucky that their Democratic voice is muted out by Florida being a Republican state. It's about the only way you can be doing well and claim you are a Liberal fighter.

As far as State and Local affairs are concerned, Florida is well under the thumb of its variety of right-wingers...

Florida, like the rest of the United States, is a Constitutional state, which makes no reference at all to political parties.

Under the federal and state Constitutions, there are various types of elections for the legislative, judicial and executive branches at various levels of government - in that order of importance - every two years at least, sometimes even more often.

Election of the federal executive, even if a very big popularity contest, is one small part of the Constitutional process.

Constitutional government, checks and balances, dispersion of power, then.

I would venture to say, at the federal level, from 2001 to 2010 we had for the most part one-party rule, and the results were nearly disastrous, while since 2011 electorate has restored Constitutional government and the economy has been slowly on the mend while the politicians merely stare each other down, mercifully.

In short, independents have ruled, Constitutionally, and the results are not great, but acceptable.

Florida is tied for third most populous state in the Union, it is relatively large geographically, it is more than a microcosm of the body politic, it is almost an entire leg, so to speak, with three or four moving parts.

We're doing as reasonably well as the electorate (and not the popularity contest), in its entirety - collective wisdom and collective stupidity on all sides all at once -, could reasonably expect.
