I love Modcloth! My daughter has a few of their dresses, and they are adorable. I bet you can find something for $50 or less on there. Keep an eye on the picnic dress; it'll go on sale eventually. Always read the reviews. There are often photos of real women wearing the dresses. Find one on someone with a similar body type, or read the reviews about how it fits.

I can't see that being a dress that will impress a guy. If the goal is too impress him, then I wouldn't buy it. If it's just because you love the dress, then go for it.

If you can't afford it, then yeah, it costs too much.

I suppose it depends on the man, but most have a preference for simple. They tend not to like anything brightly colored or too thematic (i.e. vintage picnic looking in grass green). They tend to appreciate simple and subtly sexy. If the dress were in plain white or a solid neutral for example.

When's your date? I just checked and the dress is not even in stock yet.

Bad move wanting to impress this guy--he should be trying to impress YOU!

Is this a first date? Believe me, a new dress just won't cut it if the attraction isn't there to begin with......

I think it's a bit much to spend on a date that is pretty casual - especially when you don't have the money for it. Unless you plan to wear it for every first date you go on this year, I'd pass. You can find some very nice outfits at thrift stores - you could find 10 dresses there for $100 - nice ones, just not "designer".
