I wasn't the one who claimed she was pear I said it on a website saying her shoulders were too small.
Btw thanks for bringing her up. Her dimensions are basically the same as a real life barbs only heavier. Also her waist to hip ratio would be lower as well.
Marilyn Monroe was a skittle not an hourglass. Reason why is her shoulders are too small. And she didn't gain weight even she gained in her thighs.
I gave five links showing that the bust has to be full in an hourglass. And I could provide many more.
Marilyn was the ideal hourglass?
SKittle shaped?
I always read it was the shoulder line that determined if you were an hourglass.
If a large bust is required then that means Beyonce,Rihanna,Kim K,and Jennifer Lopez are pear shaped women
Most vintage beauties in those days did wear corsets though.
They also had this bra which filled in everywhere you'd need to, and since you shouldn't see a hint of a nipple, that it didn't have one (Barbie doesn't either) meant fifties.
The corsets were more like structured guirdles. They had light 'boning' but it wasn't bone but thin strips which could move. They gave a certain shape but allowed the woman normal movement. When I was in jr. high, early sixties, even teen still wore the light girdles. Today people of both sexes wear spanx to reshape the body in a more natural way, but the general idea is still the same. None of these were/are anything like the traditional corset, though and they don't do internal damage.
But a 16 inch waist is not. Barbie doesn't have a 22-24 inch waist. She has a 16 inch waist. And they weren't wearing corsets in the 1950's when she was invented.
For the third time on this thread (at least), I am reminding you in particular, as well as others, that you are incorrect. Corsets have been worn by both women and men for at least 500 years. Google it, or even easier, here is a link for you to check out:

I count all those ladies as pears. Even Kim K, who is busty but most of the time her shoulders are more narrow. Being a busty pear is possible. I am more pear than hourglass even with a prominent bust. Of course I am also possible the figure 8 shape.

I actually know a lot of skinny women who have the dimensions 36-22-33. A corset can easily make a 22" waist into a 16" waist. Barbie was made in the day when this was not out of the norm. Average skinny women wore corsets at that time and looked just like her due to this.
It isn't surgery, but it changes a body in an unnatural way. Does anyone look like barbie without a corset? Do corsets seem healthy and normal to you?

No it seems broken without a corset to me.
