Just had this same conversation not 3 hours ago. Wonder who came up with the idea that a suit was considered dressing up. Wouldn't it have been greater if way back when it was determined denim was high fashion. Blue jeans for everyone.
But if he is going to wear a suit, GD right it should be 3 piece and well tailored. It is like an outrageous dessert - you don't want it every day, but once in a while it is excellent.
I think vintage three-piece suits look fantastic, but most modern ones look weird to me. And the cheaper ones are practically horrible, IMO.
