I hate that generalization, we're not all shoe sluts. I have less than a dozen pairs, all various types depending on the outfit and occassion.
Everyone (women and men) has something they like and amass. I really like mid to high-end skincare products and makeup, that's my thing. Yeah I guess I probably have too much and it's an investment, but I use all of it (not all at the same time lol).
Some women like to collect shoes, makeup, clothes, jewelry, nailpolish, handbags. Some men like to collect cars, watches, suits, video game systems, women. I think it's all a status symbol, a way to show off and compete in this consumer, gimme society we live in.
So why the double standard if a guy has lot of shoes and clothes? Why do people think he is gay?
Ummm because for American men it's true. Who doesn't know that??!!
The multiple shoe thing is more about quantity than quality, much like clothing. It's for bragging rights to say I have 50 pairs of shoes!!!! Personally I'd rather have a couple pairs of well made shoes than 50 pairs of crappy, shoes just like I'd rather have 1-2 good dresses than a closet full of cheaply constructed dresses that will melt after being laundered. Now, if you happen to have a closet full of great dresses and 50 hundred pairs of great shoes well good for you and post pictures cuz I like shoe porn as much as the next gal.
You buy 350$ shoes? How much credit card debt do you have?
that's the low end some of my shoes and boots go for over $1,000
why would i have credit card debt? If you need to know the only bills I have are Utils I pay my bills in FULL every month. I also have a very high FICO score.
in my circle men have large amounts of clothes and shoes its the norm in some social circles. They are not considered gay they are considered good dressers who can afford to look good an treat themselves well.

Pics please!!!!! (of your shoe collection, not your FICO score.) any Rene Caovilla in the collection by any chance?
I have one pair of winter boots, one pair of flat heel granny boots, one pair of slip on boat sneakers, one pair of sneakers, one pair of dress sandals, one pair of casual sandals, one pair of muck boots.
The most amount of shoes I have ever owned in my entire life and it drives me crazy to have so many pairs of shoes. Unfortunately sneakers are not appropriate for all situations.
Speak for yourself!
I think I'd have over 50 pairs. Varying in price... and styles.. including sneakers.

I have a ridiculous amount of heels for someone who is 6'1. None of them are designer, and the only pair that cost more than $35 or so is my pair of running shoes.
I've never purchased a shoe for under $35. Are they comfortable? I also have a ridiculous amount of heels... for someone who rarely wears them anymore.
$35 for shoes????????? or do you mean $350. I never in my 30 years seen shoes for $35
No way, I'd NEVER spend that much on a pair of shoes.

I have a surprising amount of designer shoes and heels... especially with the economy doing so bad a lot of people are unloading their extra stuff (shoes, purses etc.) for pennies on the dollar. I actually bought a nearly new pair of Fendi pumps for $30 last summer. And yes, they're real, I took them in and had them checked out
I guess I just have shoe luck.
