I always thought Lord&Taylor to be a cut above Macy's...but I noticed people here on cd are putting them with Macy's...maybe they have changed since I was last there???

Yeah I personally think Lord's and Taylor is equal to Macys. Although selection wise, I think Macy is better. At ;east that is what I see in my area.

So this is my rank per the brand they sell.
high tier:
1 Bergdorf Goodman
2. Neimann Marcus
3. Saks Fifth Ave.
4. Barney's
They sell Giuseppe Zannotti, Gucci, Moschino, Miu Miu and Escada.

Lower high tier:
1. Bloomies
2. Nordstrom
3. Barney's Co-op (although Co-op is for younger audience - thats why it is cheaper)
They sell: Diesel, True Religions, Seven, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Lacoste

Middle Class:
1. Macy's
2. Lords and Taylors
They sell: Regular Ralph Lauren, Guess, David Bitton, also Lacoste but usually the cheaper side of Lacoste.

Economy Class:
1. Target
2. JC Penney
3. Sears
They sell: their own brands and sometimes brands endoresed by celebrity.

Super economical class:
1. Walmart
2. Kmart

I too used to think Macy's was higher, but with all their expansion and what I've seen offered it has changed to Middle in my mind.
I agree with this one. Lord & Taylor is not a high end store.

I don't know why the OP posed the question, but I think it has been interesting to see how different people's perceptions are. Perhaps, she was trying to settle a bet.

I think it's strange to rank Good Will and Salvation Army in with new merchandise stores. The goods carried at the 2 places are often obviously used. There are consignment shops that are far better than Good Will and Salvation Army shops. Putting Good Will and Salvation Army in with Walmart isn't valid either. While someone may not want to shop at Walmart, they market new merchandise. I've never bought clothing at Walmart, but would if I saw something I wanted. I've seen some cute items there. I think someone could be dressed with all garments from Walmart and no one would have a clue.

Walmart carries a great selection of OTC drugs and that's where I go to buy such things. I have no need to act like it's beneath me to shop there. I like to save money. That's why I have what I have. I appreciate having a Walmart Super Center in town.

Ok first off Sears is a dump, clothes are tatty and terrible. Don't even bother...

Medium is Macy's.

Low is JC Penny and Walmart (also hideous clothes).

All other stores are high end.
