Wow. What a bunch of fat beer drinking Peter Griffins around here. Again, I am 6' 1" tall and I know that if my waist gets larger than 32 inches I would consider myself fat (i.e., fat = need to lose body fat %). Everything I own is 30-32. If I were bigger I would not be happy with myself in terms of my health/fitness. The MOST important measurement is waist/stomach when it comes to health/fitness and I want to always keep mine as low as possible.
AGREED! When I was about 19, I bulked up to 177. I added on about 12-15 lbs of extra muscle to make a go at bench-pressing 300. Before I ever made a 300 BP ( a strict form 290 was my best! ), I got tired of carrying the extra weight. Even in my 19 year old, musclehead brain it made absolutely no sense whatsoever to carry the extra bodyweight, even though it was mostly rock hard, upper body muscle. What really alarmed me was the size 34 pants that I had to start buying. Over the next year, I allowed my bodywieght to drop back to my norm of 165 ( + 0r - ) a few lbs with a 32 inch waist. More than 40 years later, I still carry the same body weight and I've maintained the 32 inch waist @ a constant height of 5'9", but if I was ever crazy enough to go for a single rep BP, I'd be lucky to crank out 200lbs. Lifting heavy weights has lost all of the appeal it once held for me.

Glad to read that. I'm 5'9" and a 36 at 190 (on my way down) so perhaps a 32 is realistic 25 pounds from now, which is where I was planning to end up.

But you'd agree that 32" doesn't necessarily carry over to someone who is 6'+, right?
It's only logical that if your body type/frame is the same, someone who is 6' will have a bigger waist than someone who is 5'9", even at an equivalent bodyfat %. No?
I am 175 cm (5'9") and 72 kg (159 lbs). I use 30" or 31".
Would that be a pretty average aize in Norway? I think the average American male is 5'9" but weighs 185 pounds. I'm guessing the average waist size in pants here is a 34-36.
After experience going from 42" (age 18) to 31" (19) to stablize at a 32/33 (21), I'd have to say 30-33 for most guys. Under 30 and you're built like a rail or are a pushover. Muscle does, in a small way, add to one's waistline.
