English speakers? Look at how hard it is for Russia's many and varied citizens to get it right. People make errors in speaking all the time, especially regarding placing the emphasis on the wrong syllable in the context of verb declensions, to name one weak spot.

Russian is hard for English-speakers to learn, and even if they are able to master the grammar, if they have a poor ear for the language, their pronunciation will be horrific. But to give you a clue, Russian courses in high schools don't require the students to memorize the grammar. For tests, the students are allowed to have their books open. This isn't the case in English classes in Russia. Some of the teachers, especially in the more remote areas may not be well-prepared in English, so they may not cover all the details, but generally, the kids are better prepared than American kids, even the ones from the better high schools.

L.A. County gives up on containing coronavirus, tells doctors to skip testing on some patients."

"Los Angeles County health officials advised doctors to give up on testing patients in the hope of containing the coronavirus outbreak, instructing them to test patients only if a positive result could change how they would be treated.
The guidance, sent by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health to doctors on Thursday, was prompted by a crush of patients and shortage of tests, and could make it difficult to ever know precisely how many people in L.A. County contracted the virus."

"The guidance sets in writing what has been a reality all along. The shortage of tests nationwide has meant that many patients suspected of having COVID-19 have not had the diagnosis confirmed by a laboratory."

Yeah.

So obviously, it's not just "Moscow-Moscow that downplays the numbers of the infected people."
Every international hub is in extremely tough situation now, be that Moscow or L.A. or New York.
May be Moscow is in a better position at this point.

I don't think they have a clear picture of the numbers. It has a 2 week incubation period during which time you spread it. It's being said 85 percent of the population will get this.

Thanks to sanctions, Russia is cushioned from dollar funding crisis and can ride out the coronavirus crisis.

New York Times

There are claims that the strain in Italy is a mutation of the one that attacked China. They say this one is more dangerous and aggressive in spreading.

"Putin himself addressed the concerns about the statistics Wednesday, saying the government might not have the full picture but is not covering up the numbers.
"Here is the thing: the authorities may not possess the full information, because people a) sometimes do not report it, b) they themselves don't know that they are sick, and the latent period is very long," he said in a televised meeting. "But everything that is issued ... by the Ministry of Health is all objective information."
This week the numbers have surged, with Russia adding 30 to 50 cases every day, and the count will most likely continue its upward trajectory as Russia expands its testing. Nevertheless, the local representative for the WHO says Russia is still doing relatively well, as the country tracks cases with epidemiological links to travel or family transmission. On Saturday morning, Rospotrebnadzor released a figure potentially more concerning than the number of confirmed cases -- 36,540 people are being monitored for possible coronavirus."

Mary Ilyushina may not have work with CNN come Monday. Actually painting a picture with positives about Russia can cost you.

It does seem that Russia is ahead of the curve. An update from Valeria says there's still no panic around Moscow.

Russia has offered aid to Italy. Doctors, equipment and supplies. If accepted it will be there Sunday.
Italy is getting slaughtered by this. Not many EU countries have offered to help.
