An unlicensed plumber is quite unlikely to make enough for Obama's or McCain's tax policies to matter much. If he's reporting his income truthfully, he would quite likely get a break, as would 95% of most Americans under both plans.

And it's Joe's fault his employer doesn't have one? Who said he wouldn't get one?

He said the business consists of owner Al Newell and him. Wurzelbacher said he's worked there for six years and that the two have talked about his taking it over at some point.
"There's a lot I've got to learn," he said.

Honestly it doesn't surprise me. It's not at all uncommon for people to not understand their city, county and states requirements for business. Shame on them if they are required and do not have one. It's not Joe's fault though.

Do we really want this type of abuse of power in the White House? Oh, yeah. It's already been there for almost 8 years!

What I don't understand is why the Obama campaign doesn't bring up this very important subject. She's committed abuse of power both as a mayor and a governor and, although she technically might not have broken any criminal laws, she is most definitely very unethical.

Just a note - in Florida we are always warned to checkout the license of a building contractor, plumber, roofer or other trade. I am licensed in a field & have my license prominently displayed. When you go to a beauty salon or get your nails done, each person must show their license and it has to be current.

By the way if ethics are your deal I find it hard to believe Obama is your man....

License are not required in every state. In Florida they happen to be more strict because of the fraud. in my state to do HVAC work (service) you only need a business license and insurance. If you go replacing items you need a license. The point is that every state is different and judging all the others by your states requirements is small minded. It even changes depending on the trade. While in general I will always say go for the people with a license. It's misleading.
No, I do understand and realize you can work for someone who has a license. However, most reputable companies require one. For example, when I was thinking of getting into the mortgage business (and changed my mind) a few years ago, I was not required to have a license if I worked for a licensed broker. However, I understand that the laws got tougher and most companies required that each person obtain his or her individual license. I was only saying that Joe probably couldn't buy the business if he isn't licensed and, if he's unlicensed and works for a company, how the heck can he be close to the income he claims he makes? I can answer my own question. It's because he was making up the whole story.

Default Joe may not be able to vote!

I don't know if anyone else shared this, and I really don't want to plow through 58 pages of Joe the Plumber. But, .....

Quote:
Questions were raised Thursday morning whether Mr. Wurzelbacher is a registered voter.

Linda Howe, executive director of the Lucas County Board of Elections, said a Samuel Joseph Worzelbacher, whose address and age match Joe the Plumber’s, registered in Lucas County on Sept. 10, 1992. He voted in his first primary on March 4 of this year, registering as a Republican.

Ms. Howe said that the name may be misspelled in the database.

Whoops! He voted in March, but if his voter registration is under a different (very close, but not the same) name, he shouldn't have voted then, and unless they get the records straightened out - and I hope they do, I want to see everyone vote - well, Joe might not get to vote for anyone next month.

I know people (well a few) who solely unclog drains and they can make upwards of $100k/year depending on their experience and time with the company. According to the links in here he worked with him for 6 years and they were also only a 2 person team. Which would make it more affordable. How much business they have I have no clue.

Yes, I agree. In Florida that's probably not true, but plumbers can make a lot of dough. Still $100,000 or even $200,000 would fit into the category of people who would get a tax cut under Obama's plan.

This is on another subject, but I think it's funny that a man is talking about buying a business and McCain is using him as an example of a good, hard-working American and he owes back taxes!

As somebody who deals with small business daily I'm not surprised either, nor am I saying it is his fault...

"There is no judge pulled, there is no attorney assigned... There is a 99 percent chance he doesn't know about the lien, unless he did a credit report or was ready to pay his taxes," Losie said.

By the time Joe is done he is going to be vilified, unemployed non-tax payer and a racist because he disagrees with Obama.

That poor guy....

I would feel a little more sympathy for him if he hadn't used his newly found fame this morning to give a soapbox neo-conservative speech to the media. Seemed like he got a carried away until his tax status, salary, and trade license status became known. Then his humility showed up.

May have been too late. Once you "willfully" allow yourself to become a public figure you must accept the scrutiny that comes with it. McCain took it and ran with it, so did Senator Obama in a sense. Neither actors deeds were Joe's fault and up until his republican stump speech this morning he was an innocent caught up in US politics but now his ego has brought the hot spotlight of scrutiny and factfinders.

It's ok Joe, this will blow over soon. I hope that your boss doesn't get fined and you can keep your job and continue to do the best for you and your son.

Maybe senator McCain needs to vet his political poster children a little better and spare innocents some grief?
