Any system that has a progressive tax rate is redistributing funds. It is not a dirty word and by no means Communistic. But then again we have a really dumbed down crowd that has attempted to demonize a word that by definition means...

Forward; toward or at a place, point, or time in advance; onward; ahead, toward the front

But looking at their faces, I saw some of them get this look like, "WTF? What's redistribution??? "

I wonder how many realize that, in a democratic republic, redistribution of wealth, via the tax code, and all the services provided by government, is ESSENTIAL to the well-being of the commonwealth? That, we couldn't function without it? I mean, think about it- what wold a country with NO redistribution look like? A Randian plutocracy, right?

So here's my theory- many in the GOP understand perfectly well what "redistribution" means... and they HATE it! That's why they resent the mythical "47%" they accuse of freeloading. I include Romney in this group because, dumb as he is, this IS about money, after all, one of the few things he's conversant in.

Conversely, I think MANY of Romney's supporters HEAR "redistribution" and, since it's coming out of the mouth of a black president, THINK they hear "restitution", as in restitution for slavery.

Redistribution- Essential, non-controversial

Restitution- Radical, VERY controversial!

What do you think, am I on to something?
What do I think? I think you're way off base.

Actually, I think Obama believes in global redistribution. I think he believes that all Americans are in the 1%, compared to much of the rest of the world, as a whole. [1]

"Forward" is quite a significant word/slogan. [2]

You might educate yourself by going to see the movie, 2016. Or maybe crack open one of the books Obama wrote where he talks about it being possible to tax a society at 100%. I didn't see this movie or read his book of his father's dreams but I ate breakfast this week with a political science major and my friend updated me on how this man really thinks.

No, you are not on to something. You sound more like you are on something. LOL Redistribution of wealth is exactly what Obama believes in and he has stated that is what he believes.

Backwards to what? The glorious days of the Bush era, where simpletons believed that you give tax breaks to the rich while engaging in two unpaid for wars because war profiteers and corporatists told them it should be so? When after 30 years of a failed voodoo economic policy, the Plutocrats still are amazed at the gullibility of the idiots that idolize them?

I want a more Progressive candidate, truth be told. In fact I want one that pushes a "green" agenda really forcefully, but I will cast my vote for a candidate that at least promotes policies that help the middle class s opposed to the Oligarchy Romney crowd.

Even poor Americans live better than people in other countries. Think about Obama's half brother George who lives in a shack.

The Obama campaign apparently didn't look backwards into history when selecting its new campaign slogan, "Forward" — a word with a long and rich association with European Marxism.
Many Communist and radical publications and entities throughout the 19th and 20th centuries had the name "Forward!" or its foreign cognates. Wikipedia has an entire section called "Forward (generic name of socialist publications)."

You are the reason America is going down the drain. What made America great is free enterprise with consumers that have free choice that advanced open competition. You want the government to force it's policies on us. What is the matter with you?
BTW Obama signed the extension of the Bush tax cuts and expanded the Afghanistan War.

I really find this comical. We have had redistribution forever in this country. Eisenhower lived with 91% top rates to build the interstate highway system, build infrastructure, and pay off war debt. Nixon taxed at a 70% rate and actively redistributed tax money to the states throught Revenue Sharing. Yet, the right-wing lays 'resdistribution' at Obama's feet as if this is a new scary concept that he invented.

It is neither new nor scary. Where we're these right-wingers when Reagan added the Earned Income Credit, which gives working poor a tax credit? Where we're they when Bush lowered rates that now accounts for the right-wing outrage that 47% pay no income taxes?

Where? They were silent. It was only until "Blackinstein" became president did they express any form of outrage.

This by no mean says that this was right.

Taxation is legal.

What our tax dollars are spent on is limited.

Taking from one citizen to give to another is not only immoral, but illegal according to our constitution.

Article 1 Section 8.

So, let me understand your reasoning, which I consider bazaar. So taxing the wealthy to keep the poor from starving is not only a bad idea, it's also immoral and unconstitutional.

Article I section 8 is Congress' taxing power and doesn't limit redistribution.
