I think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody’s got a shot. How do we pool resources at the same time as we decentralize delivery systems in ways that both foster competition, can work in the marketplace, and can foster innovation at the local level and can be tailored to particular communities.
That, sir is a very good point. And I have the ultimate concept for a decentralized delivery system: don't take the money out of our pockets in the first place! And keep your ideas for helping us to yourself.
For more than two centuries, we got along fine without the government to "foster competition." And this bit with "tailored to particular communities" is the precise ideological opposite of the level playing field we ought to be seeking. Throw out equal treatment, throw out the rules, just let us give the money to our friends. This president has no respect for the rule of law--or we wouldn't have "waivers" for those who can flout the health law with impunity, "waivers" for compliance with federal education policy, "waivers" for state welfare departments on the work requirements of welfare. But his statement makes it plain that all of this mess is entirely in keeping with his fundamental beliefs. No rules, just let us give the money to people we like.
If there was any sincerity about giving everyone a fair shot, why did Obama stand by silently while the Chicago teachers union mugged the kids and the taxpayers of Chicago AGAIN so they can get paid more to run one of the worst school districts in the nation?
So when Romney's Father took Govt. welfare because he was poor did that mean the Romney's were unable to understand a Republican view and that was the very reason they were poor?
Welfare is a temporary measure to help one get back on their feet. Many dems use it as a way of life. Why get off your lazy butts and get a job when you have a communist willing to pay your way with someone Else's money...
I have a theory that some people may be confusing redistribution with "restitution".
I heard Romney repeat in FLA yesterday " AND... my opponent believes in REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH!" (cue head tilt and pious eye roll )
The crowd went "Booooooo!!!!" right on cue too.
But looking at their faces, I saw some of them get this look like, "WTF? What's redistribution??? "
I wonder how many realize that, in a democratic republic, redistribution of wealth, via the tax code, and all the services provided by government, is ESSENTIAL to the well-being of the commonwealth? That, we couldn't function without it? I mean, think about it- what wold a country with NO redistribution look like? A Randian plutocracy, right?
So here's my theory- many in the GOP understand perfectly well what "redistribution" means... and they HATE it! That's why they resent the mythical "47%" they accuse of freeloading. I include Romney in this group because, dumb as he is, this IS about money, after all, one of the few things he's conversant in.
Conversely, I think MANY of Romney's supporters HEAR "redistribution" and, since it's coming out of the mouth of a black president, THINK they hear "restitution", as in restitution for slavery.
Redistribution- Essential, non-controversial

When Romney said he wants to decrease taxes for everyone the people living off others don't care. They don't pay taxes and they are the very people who want higher taxation. It's not a good sales pitch for people who don't pay taxes. Since they want higher taxes I say give it to them, if you don't pay taxes you have to now pay taxes. Then again, we would have to just reduce their welfare check.

The number in the US getting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or Food Stamps) has ballooned to 45 million people. Forty five million people receive money to buy food for themselves and their families.
Think about that. Tens of millions of people in our great land, the “Land of Plenty,” have admitted they can’t feed themselves or their families? Really? They should be ashamed and embarrassed. They’re not because
A. the government changed the name from the embarrassing Food Stamps to the slick SNAP program.
B. people no longer carry actual, obvious Food Stamps, they carry a card that looks like a MasterCard or Visa.
C. The program was supposed to be a bridge until you got on your feet and regained the ability to feed yourself and your family again, today it’s a never-ending supplement.
D. More and more restaurants and other outlets are accepting SNAP to pay for prepared food.
The government has systematically and systemically promoted programs to deflate the hopes and dreams of millions of people. I couldn’t even begin to fathom taking never-ending handouts and expecting that’s all there was for me in regard to the American Dream.
We are the most generous people this planet has ever known. But, when you are able to work yet collect unemployment, food stamps, Welfare, Disability, free housing, free electricity — you are allowing the government to limit your ability to succeed to your fullest extent. You are, in essence, allowing the government to decide what your worth.

I'm sorry, 14 years ago was not the last time President Obama talked about redistribution. Just ask as Joe the Plumber. I was watching that interview, and those words sent a shock through my system. Not a tingle, a shock. It's a term that is associated with communism, and is particularly offensive to many people who fear that system of government.
Willard Romney is a Communist, then. He's spent much of his life stealing from the middle class and redistrbuting to the wealthy such as himself and others like him. About Joe the Plumber ... he was a tax evader, and if reports are accorate ... a sexual pervert. Nice people you seem to admire. Not me. I'm an American.
