NEW ORLEANS -- Ron Paul won the straw poll here at the Republican Leadership Conference overwhelmingly with 612 votes, drawing big boos and some quieter chants of "Ron Paul." Jon Huntsman finished a surprising second with 382 votes, despite being a late scratch because of a "bad cold." Michele Bachmann was third with 191 votes.

Herman Cain was fourth with 104 votes. Mitt Romney, the presumed front runner, who won the straw poll here a year ago, faded to fifth with 74 votes. Tim Pawlenty finished with just 18 votes, fourth from the bottom of the 12-person ballot, just ahead of Gary Johnson (10), Buddy Roemer (9), and Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (2).

Paul’s ardent followers packed the ballroom here before, during, and just after his speech, but they were barely seen listening to other speeches. They have organized to win straw polls at many other conservative events as well.

Romney, who did not attend this year or last, was criticized here for not signing onto a legislative pledge from anti-abortion-rights group Susan B. Anthony List. The group released the list of presidential candidates who signed onto the pledge yesterday afternoon. Most signed on; Romney did not.
Is there any chance that the leadership conference of either party is made up of mostly establishment people? I think that I see just that in these numbers and would always expect for groups like that to vote very lightly for out of the beltway, non-establishment people. How about you?

We have a bunch of names that are RINO as far as I am concerned in this listing.

Of these, about 55 million are registered Republicans. About 72 million registered Democrats."

My dad, one of the most Democrat of all voters, always made his noises about his party to his Republican friends and the day after an election he usually had to go to coffee and ask them when they would be thanking him for helping elect their man President. He would say there are supposed to be more of us than of you but your man always wins, so we must be electing them.

I think you need to watch what words you type just in case those you type disagree with how you feel as much as what you just said about Obama.

You are very right about where Savoir is from. It almost gets silly sometimes reading what he/she says

When in 2007 did Obama start campaigning? Let me help you a bit and tell you that it was January. You want this to all start in December which would be nearly one full later that Obama started. Hillary waited too long since that is the way it had always been done.

Agreed. But in the context of my posts, fiscal disaster or not, RomneyCare is, at least, constitutional.

Even though many follow his ideas Paul has no chance of winning the nomination.

For me as of today the person I see defeating Obama because of experience, intelligence and the absolute butt kicking during debates is Newt.

Newt would eat Obama alive as he is far more intelligent, has the knowledge and experience on all issues and would totally destroy Obama in a debate.

Obama would not want to debate Newt of all the possibilities.

To me there is a lot of time left but Newt would defeat Obama as the dems have already said that personal issues are none of anyones business and the dems of course would be doing the whining of his marriages. Since they have already committed themselves to personal items being off limits they are sunk.
