If someone trampled on the rice, mixed it with dirt, swirled it around in a vat of rat poision, Beesley would STILL eat it.

Last night I peeled the middle vein out of some pieces of romaine lettuce and one happened to fall on the floor. Beesley gobbled it right up before I could reach down and get it! The nerd.

Two of ours eat feces, so food, people food of any kind (the kind that drops on the floor as part of my cooking frenzy) is not a problem... and they are not picky about the feces, whether it is each others' or deer or mongoose... makes no difference. Their primary diet is dry doggy kibble without hesitation. One of ours - old gal - had two bouts of pancreatitis (sp?) and hospitalized twice a few years ago and the rice, veggie, chicken meal seemed to work very well along with a canned something or other from the vet that started w/ the letter W - a supplement of some sort that worked very well.

It would appear that as the two younger pups mature, they (being rescues) have come to the realization that they will never go hungry and the poop-eating has diminished, significantly as they get older. Anyone seen this with rescues?

I don't know what he has against rice, but I'm assuming rice is the more important thing to consume when he has diarrhea than the chicken! Does your dog eat rice willingly?
Mine don't love rice, either...but they do love oatmeal, and it helps with diarrhea really well in my experience!

Avos are in the list of dangerous human food for dogs. You might want to avoid that.
My boyfriend said "I've been feeding my dogs grapes all these years and nothing happened!"
But personally for me, i don't want to take the risk!"

I'm going to try oatmeal next time! I think he'll like that. Do you use a particular one? All I have is steel cut at home, but I can get another if it makes a different. The steel cut just takes forever to make!

Try making the steel cut oatmeal in your rice cooker. No stirring required.

I can't believe I never thought of that! I've used the crockpot before, but not the rice cooker. I will try that! I usually make enough for a week, since it takes too long to make one serving.

I'm pretty sure that dogs can't eat that! I know instant rice is a huge no no for dogs, so I'm assuming the same thing goes for instant oatmeal, since it's the same premise. My vet told me not to ever feed instant, and from some research I discovered that instant rice is void of all nutrients and just passes through the dog's system without actually helping the diarrhea.
