I don't think he's biting just to hurt..i think he just gets over excited and is trying to play toys only too rough..so we will try that..thanks to all of you..such great advice..
You may just need to fine tune your Yelp!

Sometimes I say OUCH and take my hand away.

Mouthing is normal puppy behavior... but it has to be broken to protect them from future problems.

It should be loud and sharp enough to startle him - like another dog would yelp. Or saying "ouch" or whatever - just to startle him enough that he immediately stops what he's doing....

I'm glad he isn't a couch potato..i want a dog that I can go on walks with and can do things with. I just wasn't sure if it was normal for him to be extremely hyper or if it meant I wasn't exercising him enough. I think I compared his energy to my pit lab mix..i got her as a pup..actually she was a drop off and she was bout dead when I got her and saved her many vet visits and hundred of dollars later lol..
This has probably already been addressed, but puppies shouldn't really be "walking for effect" under any circumstances. Puppies don't naturally stray very far from where the mother leaves them; they are designed to get all of their exercise from playing with their mother and littermates (unfortunately that's you right now). When the puppy can run faster than you in the backyard, he or she is ready for some extended excursions out into the world. Basically a five month old puppy is probably hardy enough for a long walk. When his or her athleticism is obviously becoming adultish, you can start running with the dog.
