I-80 is closed in both directions from Kearney, Nebraska, to Evanston, Wyoming. That's just under 700 miles.

70 is closed from Airpark Drive (just east of E-470) to WaKeeney, Kansas.

76 is closed from Bromley Lane in Brighton to the junction with I-80 outside Big Spring, Nebraska.

I can't help but wonder if the stranded driver was told they needed to report to work that day regardless of the weather. I saw a lot of people (my own sister included) who had to go in, despite the blizzard predictions. I was fairly aggravated on her behalf, because while I wouldn't belittle her job, it definitely falls in the category of 'not urgent enough to demand somebody risk their neck in this weather to go and do it'.

I think this is a rant I have in general about employers. At one point last night, I saw 340 closures already announced on 9 News. To me, that says, "If my employees can work from home, I need to have them do that." If the employees *can't* work from home, then unless they're emergency workers or public utility workers, tell them to stay home!!!!

That’s even worse.

Happily retired now, but when I/we were working, I found my spouse's private for-profit employers a lot more flexible than the government agencies and non-profits that I worked for. His offices would usually close when the weather was extremely bad. Working for a health department, we'd wait to see if we had to go in, and no, not everything we did was emergent-type work. It also could not be done at home, in general. And then there are the hospitals.

As far as closing for predictions, how many times have they gotten it wrong? Apparently Boulder, just 5 miles away from me, only got about 2". The headline of the Daily Camera this morning is: "Boulder County Dodges Worst of Hyped Storm".

It's not an easy call.

All of the reports I saw stated that east of I-25 would get hit the hardest.
That seems to have been the case.

My colleagues that live near E470 and Smokey Hill can't get out of their neighborhoods. They got about a half a foot or more than I did at my house.

Yup. Our neighborhood is a hot mess. One of my neighbors has a huge Ford Super Duty dually and he got stuck trying to get out of the neighborhood. I'm sure that Smoky Hill is fine but the neighborhood streets suck. They haven't even plowed the street that goes by Pine Ridge Elementary yet because it was littered with stuck cars until a couple hours ago.

I'm just south of Hampden, near Sunrise Elementary, and it's not much better by me.

I'm sure Hampden is fine, but getting out there is going to be very, ahem, interesting.

Turbulence from the storm nearly stalled a United 737 flying over the plains at 37,000 feet yesterday.
