I can't find a studio apartment for under $700

There are deals out there, you just have to keep an eye out. On Craigslist I always check the first page of listings in my price range. Every day. To me, the rest is kind of a waste of time.

The best places are usually up for a day or two. You have to jump on it fast.

Also, I have seen true one bedrooms in Denver for $695. They exist and you can find them in decent areas with a little work and research. There is a wait list in many cases but usually only a few months out and you can place a hold with a few hundred bucks. May not be current or rehabbed in terms of style but you can't have it all.

For me, I'd rather have old cabinetry at this point than pay $1500 a month for granite countertops and trendy light fixtures. Or live with roommates. I find roommates to be just awful and an absolute last resort.

Right - The apartment was just a straight "i" shaped kitchen to bedroom with bathroom offset next to the bedroom. It had it's drawbacks, but the unit had a seasonal pool so it made it worth it at the right price.
