Is it possible to find a studio apartment under $700 (preferably in the 600-650 range) in an area that is not dangerous?

I've found them as low as $550 but that was in Pico Union and other shady areas.

Have you tried Koreatown? Supposed to be pretty cheap, but I don't know about $700. I thought the minimum was 850-1000 anywhere.

i used to see them for 600-700 in koreatown.

that was in 2011.

don't know how or if it's changed.

i did see a studio for 550 once near 3rd and Western...

get what you pay for though.

there's a handful on craigslist for 600-700, i just looked.

they all seem to be in a building called The Kipling?

haven't heard of it, but here's the reviews on yelp:

Kipling Residential Hotel - Wilshire Center - Los Angeles, CA

You pay for what you get. If you want to live in a nice area you would have to pay more than $700

Avoid the Cecil Hotel, or at least don't drink the tapwater.

I know you are looking for a studio...but have you considered a room with a private entrance and bathroom...

I think you could probably get this for under $700 in a decent area.

A lot of times they will offer kitchen access, etc.

I did a search with the search term studio for under $700 on craigslist..but the
pickings were pretty slim...

Alexandria
Bristol
Huntington

All have been renovated entirely in the past few years and all are in the $650-800 range. All are in downtown LA. Not perfect and I really wouldn't recommend for single young ladies new to a urban area, but serviceable and near the red line subway.

Having a car would be an issue as none have on site parking and street parking in downtown is not a viable options. 24 hour lots are $75-150/mo.

well..I'm living in Brentwood right now at my parents house. And they are letting me live here rent free while I'm at graduate school. So, I wouldn't trade that for living in someone else's home.

The only negative is how it affects my lifestyle. I can't bring a girl back after a date and it's kind of embarrassing to tell a girl that you live with your parents etc.

So a studio apt would fill my needs as long as I could find one in a half-way decent area.
