Dont want to run into those situations? Then move your happy butt back to the city!

Delaware dont let them do what they try to do here in Maryland and leave the farmers be!
You should see all the corn fields here in eastern Sussex County now filled with 1/2 million $ homes.

In general, those who opine about the smell of chicken plants, either live right next to one or have never been here. Lewes (the town and the area) do not have chicken plant smells. In fact they don't even have a fishy smell. Of course the further west you go in Sussex County the more agricultural the area is, the chances of certain odors becomes greater. That would be true of any place where livestock, chickens, farming, etc are prevalent. It's not West 57th NYC (which has its own odors).

You can go to Hopkins Dairy Farm for an ice cream. It's real working dairy farm, so you can imagine the scene. The ice cream is excellent, but the place is very pungent.

I was looking around the Lewes area. Good information. Everyone's been so helpful on here.

We have a dairy farm like that here.

I drive through southern DE several times a year heading to OC and when I hit the rural areas and sometimes get a slight whiff Im reminded of my childhood growing up on and around farms. Its never anywhere near what I experienced as a child when Farmer Hines spread manure....thats a smell that penetrated our walls in the house and you woke up and knew what that old man was doing . Just walk out and wave on the way to school.

But never ever have I passed a chicken farm or other farm and smelled anythign remotely bad. My wife being a girl from the subdivision sometimes complains and I just smile and take it all in.

Last edited by toobusytoday; 02-13-2015 at 05:39 AM.. Reason: Removed the rude comment, "have you smelled yourself lately?"

i cant believe there are so many angry people here. I grew up around farms and i support local farmers. read previous posts before you say something. I just want to know what I'm getting into when I move. i sure hope i don't move next to you. I love farmers markets and free range chicken eggs. don't mind the occasional smells, but don't want to live right next to one, like i have in the past. I've lived next to horse farms, cow farms, and even raised cows as a kid. I'm not against any of it.
