I love Flying Pizza! For New York style they are about (IMO) as good as Dayton gets. Pizza Factory is different from Flying P. due to their gourmet pizzas. I am not too keen on Pizza Factory's New York style pies.

On another note, it's very hard to find New York style pizza that is true to size. When I used to live in NYC a large pie was 18". My experiences around Ohio is that 16" is either large or considered extra large. Not to be nit picky or anything.

^^That's because folding the crust is considered impolite table manners in the Midwest.

Dayton is not bad for non-national-chain restaurants for a city its size. Rue Dumaine is as good as anything you could get in bistros in Chicago or the coasts (the chef worked in New Orleans and is nationally recognized). I think China Cottage is decent Chinese food. The Winds and Meadowlark are great. I love Ha Ha Pizza. There are a lot of really good restaurants here.

For pizza thry. Marion's (it's "Dayton style"), Dewey's (gourmet) or Flying Pizza (NY). Other places to check out; Milano's (Atlantic City Subs), City BBQ, Young's Dairy (best burger around), Hamburger Wagon (unique take on a burger), Taqueria Mixteca (best Mexican), and for later A Taste of Elegance )Get something with the butter cream icing).

I thought I read somewhere that they are building another location for Taqueria Mixteca. It is a great Mexican restaurant.

I would just like to point out that A Taste of Elegance changed it name to the Ele (with French accents that my computer won't let me do) Cake Company.

As someone not born here, I just can't understand the Marion's love. It's basically tomato paste and some toppings on barely-flavored crust.

By all means, try it - especially if you're new to the area. But be prepared to be confused as to why everyone from here raves about the stuff. And if you're from Dayton and reading this, I come in peace.

On a related note, we've had pizza from Carmela's Pizzeria a few times recently (locations in Springboro, Eaton, New Carlisle) and it's freaking delicious.
