I am moving to dallas area. I have heard las colinas and valley ranch are the most safe areas for the family.

Is it true or is there any other better area in irving.

can some local people explain where exactly is las colinas and is the entire las colinas and entire valley ranch area safe ?

Are you set on Irving? There are a lot nicer places in the metroplex than Irving. Irving's getting old and kinda run down--and the Cowboys are gone.

Can you please suggest some? I have noc lue of DFW metro area.

I need some area which is really safe, walkable after dark with no fear, within 20-30 mins max driving range from dfw airport and which has some what public transport (buses or trains).

I have heard that there is no public transport in Coppell. Is it true?

Where are you working?

Public transportation is not a very big thing in the Metroplex. Most people own cars and drive them EVERYWHERE. There are busses but not to the extent that other similarly sized cities have, and certainly not like in New YOrk or Chicago.

Mostly I have to work from home and quite often my company make me travel. I do have a car and mostly using.

I don't expect a great public transport but at the same time, don't want to be in a city like coppell where there is not a single public transport bus/train.

I am fine with thin public transport just in case if my friends (living with me) want to go around nearby grocessary, or shopping mall and want to use public transport.

Contrary to what's been mentioned, the Las Colinas/Valley Ranch areas of Irving are far from run down and are generally very clean and safe compared to many areas in the Metroplex. You will find many quality apartment communities north of Hwy 114 along MacArthur Blvd, in the 75063/75038/75039 zips.

BTW... The Cowboys didn't move from Irving, only their stadium did. Cowboys Headquartes is still at the corner of MacArthur Blvd and Valley Ranch Pkwy.

Thanks for your replies. I am confused between what locals are saying as I have heard from many people that valley ranch and las colinas are good safe areas in irving, near to the airport

But on the sites such as neighbourhoodscout.com, the crime rates shows really high in these areas and most of irving.

Can someone who is local, give some suggestions as are these places really safe ? Safe meaning walking in the apt complex during evening/night, and no buglury, no breaking into apts.

Also can someone suggest nice apts if these areas are good and sfe? If these areas are not safe then please suggest some other areas and with some kind of minimal public transport.

I live in valley ranch (635 and Macarthur) and consider the area very safe. I routinely go running at night - the area is well lit with low crime rates. We chose the area because the kids enjoy an EXCELLENT school district in Coppell ISD while we still get to live fairly close to the freeway, shopping, restaurants, etc. You have to be careful comparing "Irving" to "Valley Ranch". VR is in Irving, but is kind of its own little locale in the north. South Irving likely has higher crime rates although I haven't looked at the published results. While "Irving" might be getting old, VR is growing rapidly with new shopping, a new restaurant every week, and PLENTY of kids activities.

Yes, I agree, las colinas is a great area with great apartments as well. The only reason really to choose VR over las colinas would be for coppell isd, from what I have heard, the apartments are comparable. We go to las colinas (1 mile away) all the time for shopping, eating, parks, etc. --> beautiful area.
