The air here is pretty dirty...not the worst in the US, but far from the best. Some parts of the city also have pretty bad problems with litter and vandalism.

This list is not accurate at all. Lists like this are often inaccurate in my opinion and fail to provide useful, correct information. When we have visitors from out of state, they always comment on how clean Dallas and most of the DFW suburbs are. I can think of about 10 stand out dirty cities that are not even on here, including Detroit. There are obvipus cleaner cities than Dallas (Portland,Seattle,Denver) but Dallas should be on the cleanest list and not the dirtiest....

This list has no validity. Newark, Detroit, and DC are not even listed.

Newark, OMG. I used to go there on business, to the Prudential tower. A shiny high rise in a sea of garbage. And DC, just stay as far east as you can, unless you need to drive to Arlington. One of my former clients was Greenpeace. To be politically correct they put their offices in the western part of DC. Even going out to lunch was a frightening experience.

Dirty? Really?

Walkable? No.

But dirty?

You have it backwards in regard to DC.

The western part including Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, Woodley Park, Columbia Heights, etc are some of the nicest and wealthiest neighborhoods in the city. The worst crime ridden neighborhoods in DC are all located on the eastern part (mostly east of the Anacostia River).

You have to take these "lists" with a grain of salt. We get regular ozone warnings here in Upstate S. Carolina. I can tell you, having spent a good amount of time in & around Dallas (and about to move there soon), Dallas doesn't present itself as a "dirty" city at all, at least by "big city" standards.
