Hello,
I'm relocating with work to our company's office in Las Colinas. I had originally limited my search to that area of Irving however it seems that there is not much to do close by (nightlife). I've researched Addison and it looks like a nice place with some fun activities and nightlife. My concern is really that Addison is a large business center as well with many restaurants/bars/etc being located near freeways.
Is the work population increase problematic? Aside from the Addison Circle area are there many activities, events, etc. in Addison?

I'm a single woman, 41 (but young - of course who doesn't say that right?) and would like to be in a place where I can easily meet people... not really looking for 'clubs' just relaxing places to eat, watch a game, grab a beer and that might have fun activities outside the norm which are easily accessible(shows, theater...).

Thank you for your help!

I have to ask what your budget is before answering.

How long of a commute are you willing to tolerate? And are you willing to spend $100 per month on toll roads?

I was going to suggest Uptown as well. The commute from Addison to Las Colinas is via 635, which is one of most congested highways in all of DFW, perpetually under construction and generally a miserable experience.

Uptown is about the same distance from Las Colinas, and there are options for the commute which make it more bearable. Plus, it's full of restaurants and shops that cater to women in their 30's and 40's. (I know this because I'm a 40yo woman who loves to hang out in Uptown!)

Look at Post Properties -- lots of options in mid-price range and they are all located right in the heart of Uptown.

Thanks everyone! I currently drive 70 miles for work and have toll's as well (California). I'd like to be on the road no more than 20-30 min's.
Price range is 1400-1800 if possible.

I'll check out Post Properties in Uptown... thanks!!

DART rail is now opening a new line from Uptown / Downtown / CityPlace areas to Las Colinas.

Lower Mckinney with luxury apartment buildings like Glass House, 1900 Mckinney, Park 17, Ashton all have a healthy mix of residents in all ages and you might be able to find 1 bedrooms in those.

You should also look into Downtown. The Metropolitan, 400 N Ervay, and maybe the Mercantile.

I'm 26 and previously lived at the Ashton in Uptown and the Metropolitan in Downtown, so I know what they're both like. The Ashton was livelier and more "put together" and the Metropolitan was quiet, since it's a condo building and I liked being able to walk to CVS, 7-11, etc. The people were equally friendly at both, but the older residents at the Ashton took some warming up to.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I currently live in Las Colinas now at the Grand Treviso (the only residential highrise in Las Colinas), so I can share my thoughts if you're interested.

HuskerKat19, Uptown and/or Oak Lawn will give you an easy access to Las Colinas. I made that drive for a number of years, usually about twenty minutes or so, depending on actual destination.

From Uptown you'll cross Turtle Creek (it really is a creek/park) to Oak Lawn Blvd. where you'll head to I-35 going north. A couple of miles and you'll break off to Hwy 183. Shortly after the Trinity River you'll break off to Hwy 114 and you're just about there.

On a rare occasion there may be a jam on I-35. If so, outbound you can take Lemmon Ave. beyond the north end of Love Field where you'll find the W Northwest Hwy - Loop 12, which will carry you right into Las Colinas. If a jam inbound then you can exit Mockingbird Lane, to Maple, Cedar Springs, or Lemmon, then back to Uptown.

All of this is short and easy. Those long drives as in L.A. will be history. There will be plenty of water holes, restaurants, and gathering places for after work right in the Las Colinas area, and more than plenty in Uptown.
