Best to be able to see the exact set your are interested in person and judge it then.
the model certainly does matter. A low end Samsung is just as crappy as a low end vizio of not worse. When you are looking for a Tv for your living room that is 70", then Samsung has a much better offering in terms of quality and feature set. the 120hz or higher for those who watch sports is a good example of that.

No. It's about quality and level of technology.

It's not absolute that either brand is a better value.

Given that you get what you pay for, Vizio's aren't a bad buy at all. If you watch fast motion sports (football, soccer, etc), you'd be better getting a Samsung with 120hz refresh rate.
My Vizio (an E3D470VX to be exact) was manufactured in 2011 and has a 120 Hz refresh rate.

I got it refurbished for cheap. It does not have the darkest blacks, and the judder when watching 24p content can occasionally be annoying, but it suffices, and it was inexpensive.

For Vizio, it's all marketing. While Samsung, Sony, and LG actually display 120 unique frames per a second, Vizio just keeps the same frame up for twice as long and flickers the backlight. It's not the same but allows them to call it "120hz".

Panasonic is the only company that seems to stand out above the pack in terms of reliability. Westinghouse is far less reliable than any other TV brand.

I had only one problem with mine - it stopped responding to buttons and remotes.

it is an easy fix though.
Can you please do a powercycle for me?

1- Power off TV (Skip if needed)
2- Unplug TV from outlet
3- Press and hold in the power button on the side of the TV for 30 seconds (while it is unplugged from the wall)
4- Release the power button
5- Plug in the TV
6- Power the TV back on
7- Remove the batteries from the remote. With the batteries removed, press every button once. When that has been done, put the batteries back in and try the remote.
