New GFS says 4 rain events next 2 weeks. Puts us to mid January without a snow event.

After that its 6 weeks until March.

Grab the flag?
18z GFS very close to a connection on Jan 7th. Models all over the place, still think its worth a watch.

For Brainard Airport in Hartford (HFD)...

Day length today: 9h 13m 11s (Jan 2, 2020)

45 seconds longer than yesterday (Jan 1, 2020)

4 minutes, 38 seconds longer than winter solstice (Dec 21, 2019)

5 hours, 59 minutes shorter than summer solstice (Jun 21, 2019)

I would link the weekly drought monitor map, but there's no need for it. The closest area with slight dryness is far southern Delaware.

NWS is talking about rain changing to snow the morning of the 5th. They also mention (but it seems light) snow on the 8th.

Yup. Jet stream has been dipping in central U.S most of this winter. That means we get that warm return flow and a storm track that doesn't favor all snow events for us. Also, wet pattern with that flow.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
346 AM EST Fri Jan 3 2020

Attention then turns to an amplifying upper trough across the
mid section of the lower 48, and in what has been a recurring
theme for much of this winter, a primary low should move into
the Great Lakes region on Tue while a secondary low approaches
and moves across, with timing for precip late Tue into Wed
morning. Attm it appears precip for the NYC metro area and Long
Island should be mainly rain, while inland sections see snow
changing to a wintry mix, more likely freezing rain per ECMWF
partial thickness forecast. Strong NW winds possible once again
in the wake of this system on Wed as well as it pulls away.

Here's a map to understand how weather works.

And here is the latest GFS next 2 weeks. Green boxes = all the precip events coming.

Activity is there with precip but either too warm or too marginal.

It does show snow for Danbury Tuesday night. 0.30" qpf of it.

But mostly a pattern where cold comes in after the precip event. Warm air from south moves in then rains. Repeat. That's the theme. Mid January coming up. Tick Tock

With the 4-6th snowstorm idea officially being dead let's just give it to the GFS that it called two storms in a row correctly before the Euro. Not bad!

Latest GFS12z...

1......2........3...........4..........5........6 Precip events next 2 weeks and none a snowstorm.

YOU CANNOT HAVE A STORM THAT TRACKS TOWARDS THE GREAT LAKES IF YOU WANT A SNOWSTORM.

#3 (Tues-Wed) might turn into a Blizzard for Maine but for us it might be too marginal or warm. Wouldn't rule out accumulating snow in CT though but might start mixing at some point.

#6 is too far out but apparently its an active....annoying....wet .... no sustained cold pattern
