8:10am-12:10pm loop.. Looks like a little break coming after that NJ batch hits here. All those red icons are actual reports of freezing rain. The darker the heavier it is. Cold air doesn't want to leave the surface even with the layer above above freezing!

This is the type of cold where we'll start to see the Lakes and rivers really start to freeze up. Maybe the sound if the cold lasts into January which some indications say it will.

Where is everyone? Figured there would be more posts here with the ice storm yesterday. Maybe holiday shopping I guess.

Snow total forecast for this Christmas storm tonight-tomorrow. Wont get too technical why its less now. Lets just say theres 2 storms. The one over the Ohio Valley and the Coastal storm. They were supposed to merge much south more but because they aren't the coastal storm is closer to the coast now.

From NWS Boston and Upton's AFD's.

Wow on the cold coming in!

Boston

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... * Arctic air dominates. * Snow possible later Fri and Sat. Fairly high confidence in overall pattern this week as broad cyclonic flow dominates with upper low remaining parked over south central Canada. Series of short waves rounding trough will bring reinforcements of arctic air, but moisture looks to be limited so dry weather is expected for much of week. While record lows look to be out of reach, we may be challenging record cold high temperatures on Thu 12/28 which include 21 degrees at PVD in 1976, 18 degrees at BOS and BDL in 1924, and 15 degrees at ORH in 1976. Forecast highs are a few degrees colder for each location. Subzero temperatures are forecast across parts of interior SNE Wednesday night/Thursday morning and again Thursday night/Friday morning. Wind chills may reach 15 below zero, which may eventually require Wind Chill Advisories. Area of greatest concern is near east slopes of Berkshires and in north central MA.

Upton.

Main story for mid to late week will be a prolonged period of caa as polar upper low extends eastward into Ontario and Quebec and arctic high builds southeastward from the central Canada. Some uncertainty on timing of arctic air into the region Tue/Wed, but overall appears likely that once temps fall below freezing Monday Night we will not get above freezing for quite some time. With several nights of low temps likely falling into the teens and single digits mid to late week, and highs not getting much above the lower to mid 20s, the potential for frozen/burst pipes, space heating related mishaps and other cold weather impacts will increase. These frigid conditions may continue right through the weekend into early next week.
