The beautiful Heroes Tunnel in New Haven on the Wilbur Cross Parkway. Both are driven through, first the west bound tunnel, then turn around in Hamden and the towards the tunnel in the east bound section. The weather, at times drizzling and at other times dry as bone (the storm was coming from the west and this was the edge) caused some interesting views of the parkway itself. Also, a person is caught walking on the parkway. Yes, walking! Unbelievable!

Near the beginning show once the Igor Sikorsky Bridge which I think is a beautiful bridge. Nice and steady, and not give off the shaking sensation like the old bridge! Before crossing the bridge, if you keep an eye to the left on the forest eventually and very quickly the Sikorsky letters appear.

A look into what once was Oscar de la Renta’s country home in Kent, Connecticut.

As this satellite image of Google Earth show, the property still conserves the exquisite gardens.

Around the main campus of the University of New Haven in West Haven. I had forgotten that place can have a nice view of the New Haven skyline given much of the campus is on a hill. I also noticed they added a few more buildings compared to the last time I passed through there (many years ago.)

Naugatuck. I like that name, but the town leaves much to be desired. To be fair though, it seem the main drag in downtown was under construction with many of the trees removed. This town will be visited again in the fall at the time the colors of the trees are at their peak there. Hopefully, whatever improvements they are doing to the downtown will be finished then. If not, the nice autumn scenery will make up for the disappointment. There might be more to Naugatuck than the downtown area.

Much nicer looking is downtown Waterbury, though there too things could be better. The University of Connecticut - Waterbury campus is not just among the most beautiful places in Waterbury, but also I think among the most beautiful of regional campuses. UConn does have a thing for architectural beauty. I have visited a few campuses of other universities (mainly in CT, NY, Washington DC, and Florida) and generally few tend to be more beautiful than UConn’s, even private universities. Incredible. One thing I noticed from the highway is that I think Waterbury is one of the major cities of Connecticut but it has no highrise skyline, not even a tiny one like in Bridgeport or the recently grown a bit New Haven. Not that a city needs a highrise skyline to be noted as an important place (look at Italy or Spain, hardly stand alone highrises there and that means nothing), but in the USA highrise skylines are a tradition. The rest of Waterbury? Err, no comment. That’s the other Connecticut, the poor and messed up version. It’s a minority and not representative of the state, but since these places tend to be in the major cities everybody knows where they are. I hope Waterbury see better times within my lifetime and it’s currently in its final years before a future boom starts. Who knows if 100 years from now it will be the place to be and be seen, but I’m definitely not going to be around in 100 years and neither will most people alive in 2024.
