Now this is what lunchtime should be like! This is normal for this time of year, NOT 70s at lunchtime

Clouds to our west

Nope.. Bridgeport max of 73 today is 1 above normal. Unreal. Its still been since August 21st that we had a below normal day max. Only once since August 12th.

Bridgeport the new hot spot of the Northeast? lol. Funny seeing them warmer than most and sometimes north of Florida as well. How hot are those damn waters? Gees.

BTW.. Ignore that 99 of course. lol. That station has had issues for a while now.

Heres a little perspective. Todays max of 72 in Danbury. Number of times this month staying under 75 is 4.

Last year in September 1-21 there were 12 days that stayed under 75° by now.

And a bunch of nights in the 40s vs just 1 this year.

Couldn't even do 2 nice mornings.

Clouds overhead kept us warmer than thought. 61 at BDR at 6am. Normal low is 56.

BDL normal low is 51 now.

Oh, it was still pretty nice, didn't need the A/C.

Besides, if it stays cloudy all day as predicted, it will make the daytime temps lower

Interesting side stat; neither BDR nor Central Park have any Heating Degree Days this month or season (they count them from July 1 to June 30 instead of January to December, basically any time the average temp is under 65 degrees that day gets for the number of "degree days" 65 minus the avg. temp for the day, it's supposed to be a stat measuring how much heating was needed that "winter"). Average "first" for BDR is Sept. 8, average for CPK is Sept. 13 (on rare occassion they occur in July and August, usually a rainy day with a very low high temp for the time of year). Based on the long range (lots of days with averages at or just above 65), there's a good shot that NYC and even BDR could go all of Sept. without one.

I don't have historical stats on this for BDR, but it has never happened in Central Park, so I imagine that is the same for BDR. In fact, only 4 Septembers in Central Park have even had under 10 "degree days" (very likely this year), 1931 with 9, 1969 with 3 (the record), 2006 with 6 and 2011 with 4. Even the record 1961 September had 20 of them in Central Park, reflecting a few cool days averaging out with several days over 90 degrees (average is 32, though only 2 of the last 12 Septembers were "above average" in this respect).

A similar stat called "cooling degree days" (where you instead take the avg. temp for the day minus 65) reflects how much A/C is needed between "summers" and is recorded on a January - December basis. I don't have "record" stats for BDR on this, but Central Park has 1514 cooling degree days so far, and the record is 1549 in 2010, so it's going to be close (October usually has only 20 or less of these, and some years has none).

Cam,

Things have been great inland. Basically perfect weather for the last 2 weeks now. Any chance we get some rain with the coastal system Sunday/Monday? It's making an effort to linger and push north, but would probably favor persistence right?

Bingo. Lunchtime and only 63. Fall like. In fact it's 63 in Greesnsboro, NC. Thank You Clouds.

It's a Love/Hate. Keeps night warm but day cool.

Which do you guys prefer? A warmer night or day?

Clouds at night or sun during the day?

A Cooler night or Day?

Clear night or clouds during the day?
