Hate to be in NYC or Philly this morning... Rather be in Pittsfield, MA.

57 here.

More rain tomorrow.

I didn't think it would be another 1"+ though. Nice.

See what I mean? Either we're asking where is the rain, we need it. Or it just keeps coming then we get tired of it. LMAO!

Still can't believe parts of the south will be colder than us next few nights.

Just so you see what I'm seeing .. there's a sharp front that comes in after the 19th (give or take) that could have the chiliest air of the season. So imagine NW of us. I'll have to remind my brother in-law near Buffalo to clean his wood stove.

You can see the warmup during the week coming up though. Euro has 80s all over again.

Now last night Lee Goldberg on Channel 7 addressed the NYC "80+ degree streak" and seemed to suggest it's still on at 64 days, but it and any other such existing streaks are likely to end today, tomorrow or Monday. So I wonder if NWS changed that "blip" I mentioned regarding it being 80+ at midnight back though everything I see on the OKX site seems to suggest the "official" reports still show highs under 80 a couple of days ago except at EWR.

That said, another NYC weather blog I follow (the one I mentioned as declaring the streak over) noted some virtually equally hot Septembers in the somewhat distant past (any reference to "today" refers to today's date), so it's not as "freakish" as it may sound (and the guy running this blog is very big on global warming to boot so interesting that he still noticed this). I know for NYC 1961 was the warmest Sept. (same for BDR perhaps?) and I'm sure places in CT had hot Septembers these 3 years too (knew about '61 and '83, didn't know about '71 (9 days in a row with lows above 70 in Sept must have been very frustrating).....1931 is another hot September not noted on here):

1961 Today's high was 94 degrees, a record for the date, and the ninth 90-degree high in the past seventeen days (since Aug. 27). The average high during this two-and-a-half week period was 89, eleven degrees above average.
1971
This was the ninth day in a row with a low in the 70s, the longest such streak for the month of September. The average low during these days was 72 degrees, nine degrees above average.
1983
Today was the 12th consecutive day in which the high temperature was 84 degrees or warmer. This stretch of days was nine degrees warmer than average. This was also the 27th day in a row with above average mean temperatures, one of the longest such streaks on record.

Also, as I said earlier, September is an almost-unique month for Northeast weather records in that consistently hot Septembers actually more often occurred in the distant past than today. Another note to that I found is that for the top 10 Septembers in Central Park's long record:

- 4 of them occurred before 1900, including #2! (just 3 other months have 1 pre-1900 "top 10", and June has 2 of them)

- 3 more of the 10 occurred between 1900 and 1931 (granted, some of the slots have ties with later years)

Just had a wind gust to 20mph. Wish winds would stay loke that constantly.

Getting dark. I see why. Here comes the rain moving south to north.. moderate overnight.

By the way... It stayed in the 60s all the way down to Kentucky. Why cant we? Normal is low 80s for them. Pittsburgh is 59° this afternoon.

Today's weather is interesting. If this were a winter system we'd be saying bust for Western CT. Big Batch southeast of us. Another batch to west moving north. BUST!

LOL

Colder and drier in the south than in New England this morning.

They are tasting Fall before we do. Freezing level down to 8000 feet over Tennessee.

So noted, LOL!

Now that it's over one way or another, my last actual post on this is something really interesting this morning I found on the blog I first learned of this streak from that Cambium will especially appreciate. This same year, thanks to our super-cold February, NYC in addition broke the record for longest streak of high temps 45 or lower, and ironically it was almost the same length (61 days vs. 62). Sounds a lot like the 1930s when nationally a lot of both all time record low winter temps and record high summer temps were achieved (for example, Central Park's all time high is 106 on July 9, 1936 and its all time low is -15 on Feb. 9, 1934, just 2 years earlier.....I believe the state all time high and low for North Dakota both occurred in 1936 as another example).

Or 1977 that had a January even colder than this February but there was a 104 degree day in July.

I admit this last tidbit is quite interesting.
