Norfolk has earned its title of "Icebox of CT."
You think 150 feet higher makes you colder/snowier than somewhere 40 miles north? 150 feet is almost meaningless. Yes, norfolk is the "icebox" of CT. I agree. But it's not the coldest/snowiest place in CT.(town yes, but not place). The highest point in CT would be the coldest/snowiest and that's at 2380 feet on the south side of mt frissel in salisbury, ct.

The singing/chirping birds have me thinking it's Spring-- ever since Christmas they've been out and about in FFC.

That's what I was thinking; how are their bodies surviving 0F temperatures at night?

NWS NY for Sunday-Monday.
  • Arctic air kisses us goodbye (what else is new when there's precip this year??)
  • Track is key on heaviest stuff but could get some moderate rains Sunday evening.
  • Changing to snow Monday morning north of Merritt West of I-91.
  • Another arctic front coming in, what else is new after a storm?
  • Weak Clipper mid week, what else is new with a clipper this year?
ARCTIC AIR WILL BE QUICKLY MODERATED ON SUNDAY WITH MAINLY A RAIN EVENT.

WITH THAT SAID... TRACK OF LOW PRESSURE WILL BE KEY FOR AREAS NW OF NYC...

PRECIP COULD BE MOD-HEAVY AT TIME LATE SUN/SUN NIGHT WITH STRONG FORCING AND GOOD ATLANTIC MOISTURE FEED.

IF LOW PRESSURE TAKES A MORE INLAND TRACK AS DEPICTED BY 00Z ECMWF...COULD EVEN SEE SOME CONVECTION ALONG THE COAST (LOW PROB).

THEN AS COLDER AIR FILTER IN SUN NIGHT AND UPPER ENERGY WORKS TOWARDS THE REGION IN WAKE...SHOULD SEE TRANSITION TO SNOW FOR NW PORTIONS OF TRI-STATE AND A RAIN/SNOW MIX ELSEWHERE AS PRECIP WINDS DOWN.

SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS AND BREEZY CONDITIONS MON WITH CYCLONIC FLOW AND UPPER LOW MOVING THROUGH.

ANOTHER ARCTIC FROPA USHERS IN COLD AIR FOR MON NIGHT INTO THE MID WEEK PD.

NEXT CHANCE FOR SOME LIGHT SNOW...POSSIBLY MIXED WITH RAIN NYC/LI...ON WED AS A WEAKENING ALBERTA CLIPPER MOVES ACROSS.

Agree in terms of elevation that Mt. Frissel should have more snow, but 40 miles north actually has about the same minor effect as 150 ft more elevation. The only places where 40 miles makes a big difference is when you're going 40 miles inland from a coast, this is especially true on the West Coast and somewhat so in the Northeast (i.e. the difference between Bridgeport and Hartford or between NYC and Danbury is a lot more profound than the difference between Hartford and Springfield or Danbury and Poughkeepsie)

Will be skiing in VT this weekend. Hoping this will be a mostly snow event. If it is, Monday is looking great.

Might be a slop fest for some areas. Snow, to ice, to rain to snow. There will be melting and refreezing on in spots which means ice around. heads up for Avalanches if that happens on the slopes. But the hills might be seeing some nice accumulating snows again.

Sat and most of Sunday look great!
