I went out for my afternoon coffee and heard a small sound bite about Malloy raising the gas tax in Connecticut for the upcoming year? Can anyone verify or debunk this?

I have not heard this. Historically the gas tax is the hardest to raise. Given that the price of gas has dropped it may be easier now. Still I am not sure it can be done unless it is strictly dedicated to transportation funding. Jay

That is what I thought. It caught me a bit off guard to hear that. I have my doubts he will do something like that. I voted for Foley, but since Malloy win I am trying to have faith in his ability to turn over a new leaf. So far...it has been a slight let down.

it doesn't seem like CT's economy is going to improve sometime soon, CT has high taxes also, not very business friendly, but CT has potential to have a strong economy being not far from NYC which could help.

Not sure if this is CT Economy News, but it will have implications. Montana governor to lead Democrats' campaign arm. The job requires a lot of travel and kissing butt. Who will run CT?

The US will get to know our fearless leader. My guess is he will not last 4-years as governor. He is aiming to get a Federal job.

This article in Bloomberg News sums up Connecticut Economy very well. It describes everything from population growth, to business climate to jobs (or lack of). Does FFC really hold 95% of the wealth in Connecticut?

The last line is what strikes me the most...

"Higher taxes make Connecticut less attractive to fund managers, said Stephen McMenamin, executive director of Greenwich Roundtable, a nonprofit that educates alternative investors and hedge funds." ...

“When a manager calls me and says I’m looking to come up to Connecticut, I say keep going,” McMenamin said in a telephone interview. “It’s just a horrible tax situation here.”

Again, the financial journalists fail to see the forest through the trees. The part that struck out with me was the cognitive dissonance that was treated as a legitimate concern of one of the interviewees: paraphrasing "My friends are moving to Florida because they can't afford to live here, the economy stinks. It used to be an economically vibrant place." Headsmack! This is why I wholesale dislike Bloomberg News, Forbes, etc. It's a shame they have such a sway in political discourse.

Please explain the cognitive dissonance with: "My friends are moving to Florida because they can't afford to live here, the economy stinks. It used to be an economically vibrant place."
