You don't even have to move..... some of my friends' parents just bought a 2nd home there and got their fancy attorneys to file it as the first home. They live in other states the rest of the year.

And this is why, on paper, it appears NE states are losing so many residents. I know at least a dozen people who have done this.

Probably sound like a broken record. Issue with CT is the high COL and wages. A single person living in CT on average needs to make between $650 to $800 a week to live on their own. This leads to many people having to depend on State assistance to survive. CT needs to look at ways to lessen taxes and not place the burden of fixing CT debt on residents.in addition to, need to attract and encourage businesses to the State that can offer higher wages to employees. The State needs to make higher education more affordable and lower cost so people can advance themselves in their career to make a living to be able to stay in the State.

That is true and I believe you need to prove it. I knew someone who did this and they literally kept track of the days and hours they were in each state. I thought it was crazy since they really did not save that much money and when you added up the extra costs of travel expenses they spent to visit their grandkids and for special family events in between, it is just not worth it. Something people do not think about when they do this. Jay

I don't think people do it to save money as much as they do it to get away from the harsh winters... people who have second homes usually aren't concerned with penny pinching..

I don't think that's true. That's a huge chunk of your money for anyone.

But some states are more zealous about requiring proof than others. NY is well known to be, but I'm not sure most other states are. If your employer uses your Southern home for your W-2, you drive to work (no metro tickets/proof), are registered to vote in the south, have car insurance in both places, don't use social media, etc. it's pretty difficult to track you down that way. I'm not saying it's right but it does appear to be pretty easy to skirt the rules.

Here is an interesting article it claims when you take our per capita income and adjust for purchasing power CT is 2nd in the nation for value of income.

But again. The folks in Fairfield County throws off these types of data because they make alot of money. Nyc all the way to westport you find many people making 100,200k easily then cross the line to Bridgeport where you barely see people making 40
