It was damn cold this morning. First time running the heat and ever having electric heat. Not bad at all.

BTW... I had frost this morning. So officially the first day for frost for me. Cars and grass had it but lets call it "patchy". Im not sure we'll see widespread frost this year unless we get some rains.

Noaa minimum temp map this morning. Not a fan of their color codes even with the warmer temps.
28 is Danbury. 37 is White Plains. 38 is Bridgeport. Hit 26 at Willimantic. I believe the 33 is Newburgh because Poughkeepsie didn't drop below 40 I think.

I would just caution you that when the true cold season comes in early December and overnight lows are in the 20's F night after night...check what it's costing you vs oil or other sources. I use electric heat in the shoulder seasons (late October/half of November)....and late March/early April in a sun room and it's dirt cheap. Of course at those times of year the daily highs are normally in the 50's F and the sun is streaming into the windows much stronger. Once the real cold season comes and daily highs are in the 30's F or even low 40's F the value of electric seems to go down vs oil. If you don't pay attention you can get some bigger bills.

It was an unusually cold night last night for late October (and will be again tonight), then overnight temps look to get warmer looking at the forecast :

Poughkeepsie didn't drop below 40? Doesn't make sense as even JFK and Newark got below 40 and Central Park's low was exactly 40

(I checked though and you weren't entirely off base.....Poughkeepsie had a very weird warming/cooling/warming this morning.....they were 39 at 7am, 33 and 8am, then 42 at 9am, so their low was 33......it's because from 4-6am they had an overcast sky when other stations did not, keeping their temps above 40.....that might relate to the rumored flurries in Litchfield County).

Yup, it had that "feel" out there earlier with the NW winds. Now we're in the upper 40s but still cool. Thanks for the report.

Thanks. I knew it didn't make sense but wasn't sure. So the 33 on that map is POU

Lunch time temps. Wind gusts to 20 in spots

It'll be interesting to see the electric bill, but I know it'll be cheaper than the $200 oil cost me in my old place.

Though I tend to prefer layers and lap cats over cranking the heat. Not really too worried.

1 year ago today Sandy was in the Bahamas. https://www.city-data.com/forum/conne...-2012-a-6.html

And here's what the models were showing 1 year and 2 years ago today. Crazy. It's been so quiet lately.

The absolute funniest part is the lower left hand image. GFS showed nothing. Dry. No snow. LOL
