That is your opinion but many others would beg to disagree. Granted the woman should not have encouraged the bear but I am not sure she did anything that she could be fined for. Jay

Its that kind of attitude that's wrong, entitled folks over develop an area and then the bears, etc have to contend with human presence, and whiney yuppie types want the bears gone "for the children" in effect, it's the whiney yuppies that are the problem, and politically DEEP caters to them.

These are the same useless people that idle their SUV's ten feet done the street from their own homes to drive little johnny the rest of the way safely and Johnny is over the age of 10. People like this are a bigger problem than any bear.

You do not know me or what I do or do not do. Attacking me does nothing. If we kept your attitude we would still be living in caves. I live in realty. We have areas for humans, areas for wildlife and areas that we share. The bears were in areas we share. They were given several chances and still showed aggressive behavior. They had to be put down. That is reality. Sorry you don't like it. Complain all you want but there was little choice. Connecticut is a small densely populated state and we don't have the vast wilderness other states have. It has been this way for more than 300 years and is not going to change. Come into the real world and accept it or move out. Your choice. Jay

As Jay said, instead of attacking other commenters here and being a broken-record, you might want to contribute to this thread, and shed some light into the behind-the-scenes. You claim to have worked as a Ranger. Yet you trash your ex-colleagues.

I did my part to inform others on Rangers work, and wildlife management. As ex-LEO myself, I can tell you that your derogatory claims against your ex-co-workers are very unusual and suspect. I for one, do not believe you. Or they kicked you out for a reason, and you harbor ill-feelings.

We had a really bad fire here in our town last weekend. About 30 acres in Pootatuck state Forest and Squantz Pond State Park burned. I think final count was 35 towns, between CT towns and NY departments as well, who showed up here to help my town out (which btw, I am so grateful to all who showed up for us -- thank you -- you are all heros!!! ). Anyway, state DEEP warned us all that we might see some unusual wildlife show up in our backyards. And sure as s h I t, they were 100% right!! I saw more backyard posts of bears and Bobcats in New Fairfield & Sherman backyards on FB on Saturday/Sunday than I ever did see before. I trust them -- they definitely know about what they speak of IMO.

Black Bear Strolls Along I-84 in Southbury, CT This Morning

Troop A dispatchers in Southbury said about 8:40 a.m. that police had yet to find the animal.

This is at least the second time this week a bear is spotted along I-84. On Tuesday, a black bear was killed after it was struck between Exit 32 and 33 in Southington.

The Record-Journal reports the bear was hit in the eastbound lanes of the roadway, but no vehicle was found at the scene. DEEP spokesman Dennis Schain said the male bear was estimated to be around 2 years old and weighed approximately 170 pounds.

A state Department of Transportation official said this type of accident is uncommon for the area

From Burlington, CT.

This girl did EXACTLY what you should do and what I would do.

Notice.. they weren't aggressive at first...cute..."SCARED" animals....

ONLY when she started walking/running they started becoming more interested.. If this girl started running or screaming at any point, she would of been dead and we would be seeing it in the news how Black Bears are aggressive.

Notice it tried to bite her when she started walking faster. And putting down the water bottle was also something I would do to try to get them to investigate something while you're able to put distance between you and the Bear.

I believe also smart for shutting the camera off at the end, that may have been a threat to them, given they have tags and already encountered another human with a weapon.

Didn't see any bears in Session Woods so lucky. I literally was worried because I smelled like a salted season human ha yesterday. They are so beautiful.

By the size of them, they both looked to be yearlings..likely after "Family Breakup" has occurred..so being on their own now..don't have momma to direct them..tho did notice they often went to tree all ready to climb..kind of something all cubs do when nervous.

I chuckled when the one with ear tags started to paw slap..a sign of nervousness..stay back activity which normally a mother bear teaches their cubs..but these two yearlings didn't bluff charge this young lady, which means their curiosity outweighed their fear factor..nervous yes..but no indication they were totally afraid.

Thanks for this video~~ Glad to see such normal behaviours of young black bears are no different from place to place.
