How would this one work for home use (surfing, storing pictures and music, no gaming)? Seems like a good price. It has Windows 7 which is a definite plus for me. I've tried 8 and hated it.

As a 5 year old computer (and even older) can handle those tasks easily any current model will work just fine.

Try dell outlet. You may find something like that for a little less and free shipping.

Windows 8 isn't really that much different that Windows 7 - just that front screen interface and a couple of changes to the Windows Explorer.

Here's essentially the same thing for $349:

With your needs, why not get a laptop? You can have portability to take the pictures and music with you or hook it up to your TV if equipped.

Note: I have a desktop but plan on downsizing to a laptop.

I second. Instead of a desktop, you can buy 15"-17" laptop for very good price. They are just as capable as desktops, take up less space, and are considerably lighter (even at 5-7 lbs). You can still connect an external monitor and forget you have a laptop.

Several laptop models without touch screen and running Windows 7 are still available, but you have to act fast.

I'm sure the thread starter is aware of laptops. They asked about desktops. Many people still prefer them.

If you are a Costco member or know of one that can order this for you, here's a pretty good deal - HP Pavilion p7 Desktop, Intel® Core

There's actually a few more that are in a similar price range, but with only a Pentium G2020 processor.

Read the Free Concierge Service and the Return Policy. Tough to beat at this price range.

But ... Windows 8 only.

Yep they sure do.

Btw: to save space I will very probably be purchasing one of those "slimline" desktops. Plus I only require at most a couple of expansion slots anyway.
