How many Icons are on your desktop? I have 13. Some people have such a mishmash of icons, they overlap each other.
I have 5 personal folders for different categories, three browsers, a few other of the usual things. Everything that turns up on the desktop as an icon associated with a program, I drag it into a folder labeled "Clutter", since they all open automatically when needed or on startup. There are about 50 items in that folder. Shortcuts for browsers, notepad and desktop are next to my start button, so I never need to clear my screen to access them.
By the way, is there any way to color-code a desktop folder? Or do they always have to be the same yellow?

There are a lot in this file: moricons.dll. Should be in the system32 folder.
They're not different colored file folders, but you might find something that will work
These programs will edit .ico files so you could make your own in differing colors:
I have 7 applications on my desktop. They are the ones I use the most often: Finder, Desktop, Safari, TextEdit, PhotoBooth, Dictionary, System Preferences. If I need any other applications, I simply use the Spotlight feature and type in the name of the application. I don't feel like tabbing through 20 items just to find my Safari so I can get on CD.
I can't imagine people would have 80 items on their desktop. That is pure insanity IMO.
