not happy right now .. I have a Gateway media plex with windowsXP pro and its gagging out at start up as windows is starting to boot up tells me to start in normal and then it just gaggs out .. nope cant get it to point of even putting in my reboot disc .. wont go that far ..yeh I am aggervated dont know how to get it to start HELPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!
I have a small laptop but I want my gateway to work!
Please explain "gagging out"
Start tapping F8 at the gateway boot screen, you should should get the XP boot menu, try last known good configuration, if that doesn't work try safe mode, see if either will get to your desktop.

did that when the windows starts you remember the bar that goes at start up ( windows boot up ) its stuck there and just cycles thru the xp boot menu and then re starts! doesnt go to safe mode or last con fig .. I have had this computer for 3 yrs so pretty much understand how to fix it but this is not letting me get in to do that ..I tried to put it in safemode but it seems stuck and wont go there ..
thats what I mean by its gagging out ..
just hooked it up to hardline cable and I think this is some of it but my wireless is working fine
Sounds like a failing hard drive or at the least, a corrupted system file. If you have a Windows XP CD, you can boot off of it, hit R for repair (takes you to the recovery console) and run a chkdsk on the C drive. If that doesn't fix it, I'd further investigate the hard drive's health. Look in the BIOS or open the case to see who made the drive, then download their diagnostics.
one new hard drive later! sheesh .. its fixed .. I wore it out I guess but still wasnt expecting this repair so soon
Hard drives can fail at any time without warning, regardless of age, when a customer asks me how long they should get out of a new one I install, I say 10 minutes to 10 years.
I was aggervated to say the least when the computer died .. I was working on a web page and all my art work and text was saved on the thing .. no dummy me hadnt thought to make a back up copy sheesh .. oh well back to square one
No one asked the important questions, what does "OYI!" mean in the subject post? That's a new one.
"Gaggs out" was solved at least.
