I ate at a Del Taco once back in 1991 in California. I thought it tasted like Taco Bell, only worse (if that's possible!). Why does anyone care to purchase cat food in a shell with stale lettuce and gub'ment cheese on top?

Visiting a beautiful and scenic town with character like Durango, a mediocre dime a dozen fast food joint would certainly be very low on my radar. Off the interstate when I'm in a hurry to get from A to B, maybe, but even if I did I wouldn't be glad I stopped there. Chilling in Durango would be more like a good burger with a microbrew or an enchilada with a magarita. Yeah that's more like it in those parts.

Agreed. Most chain restaurants are simply a way for people to be assured of finding the same mediocre slop to eat wherever they go. Sort of "dummied-down" food for dummied-down palates.

I get them DTs too sometimes. I'll be walking down the road and hear, "McGowdog!"

Now... do we turn around or don't we? Is there really somebody there or isn't there?

Cut 'em some slack. There are "normal folks" living there who probably frequent a fast food joint like residents anywhere else. It's not Disneyland's Main Street designed strictly for your aesthetic sensibilities.

Jack n the box used to be good when they had that breakfast sandwich on ciabatta bread. I haven't seen that one since SoCal.

Del Taco used to make a good fish tacos when they used simple and cheap cabbage instead of that wilted rotten lettuce.

Jack n the Box's 2fer 99 cent tacos beats DTs and Taco Hell both.

I can't make any experienced based comment on the mediocre slop that jazzlover referred to. I haven't eaten in any of the mediocre slop establishments for at least 30 years. I never really cared too much for that mediocre slop crap, and I'm guessing that it's alot worse today than it was 30 years ago. On a more positive note, those mediocre slop places do provide decent restrooms when travelling.

No guarantees of that, anymore. I've seen some pretty dismal "facilities" in major national franchise fast food joints and restaurants--including in some chains that supposedly pride themselves on cleanliness. I think that is a result of many of the chains hiring "least common denominator" store management people and employees. That seems to be an even more pernicious problem in the resort areas that have a relatively transient worker pool--many of whom are more concerned about having their time to goof off than they are about actually working or having pride in their job.

All fast-food restaurants should serve Kobe and prime beef, blue-fin tuna, beluga caviar, truffles, faux gras, cognac, Jamaica-Blue Mountain coffee, and have a Rhode Scholar waiting staff and full-time restroom attendants... working at 8 bucks an hour... to provide us with a scrumptuous dollar-menu and drive-through service
