I am a Louisiana transplant living in Dallas. in the 16 years I have been here (this time around), I have truely come to hate the sports department of the University of Texas.

They are overbearing blowhards that just nearly killed the Big 12. in fact even thought it remains alive in some way, it will never be as strong as it was/could have been.

down with TU. Saw'em OFF!

But Texas was/is the only thing that saved the Big 12. It's destiny was always tied to what Texas wanted, many schools owe their existence in a major conference entirely to the fact that Texas decided it wanted the Big 12 to survive.

The college football landscape is defined by the haves and the have-nots, and Texas is one of he biggest "haves". For the rest, it's just like weather -- you can't control it so just make the best of what you get. Or move.

Look, I am an SEC/LSU guy. my view here is from an outsider who happens to live in the big 12 area.

objectively, the big 12 blew up (Nebraska/Colorado leaving) because of the bully tactics of Texas. Now TAMU is headed out the door because they are tired of hearing it from Texas.

The bottom line here is the Big 12 would not have needed this “saving†had Texas not put the screws to Nebraska a long time back. This blow up didn’t just happen a few weeks ago. That was just the last eruption.

Texas had a great thing going for it, and had they done the right things all along, the big 12 would be close to the SEC in both quality of football and in revenue generated. Right now, the big 12 is just barely holding things together and it is nearly all UTs fault.

Let me also say that I started out a UT fan. I still think the school is fantastic. You would be hard pressed to find a better state school out there anywhere. But that Athletic Program is one giant misplaced ego that will either need to take a step back or take its come-up-ens.

A&M had their chance to join the LHN and make it the Lonestar network...
But they said they were too good for the Big 12 instead

I think the Big 12 will end up just fine (if not better) than it was before. Who the hell wants Missouri and Colorado anyway?
Now losing Nebraska and A&M kind of sucks. But adding TCU and West Virginia is a big plus.

This weekends Texas vs Tech game will be tough... Texas Tech has scored over 34 points in all but one of the games they have played this year... while when Texas has gone up against a good team, we have only been able to score 17

Texas 28, Texas Tech 21

LSU is my number one team. unfortunatly whoever is playing Texas has become my number two team.

But the Big 12 wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for Texas. And what did Texas do exactly to put the screws on Nebraska, other than dominate them on the football field? Texas successfully lobbied that the Big 12 should have higher academic standards than to blanket allow partial qualifiers, I guess you could call that something... but "putting the screws to Nebraska"? No way.

And A&M? As you've surely read by now, they had the option to join a "Texas teams" network rather than have Texas go it alone with the LHN. A&M declined. Yes, A&M is sick of Texas fans belittling them and having all the success. But that has everything to do with superior coaching and administration, not some special advantage Texas enjoyed. A&M has tons of money, they could have hired better staff and coaches and honestly *should* have fielded a much more competitive football team during their Big 12 stint.

All Texas has done was made a simple business decision that ANY university who could earn such an option would gladly take. If we turned down $300M from ESPN, how stupid would that be? I mean, what do people really expect? This is a big money game. It's a shame not everyone is on the same tier, but to blame those that are in the upper echelon is just playing the victim.

Anyway, in the long run the Big 12 should be MORE successful, as the universities who seem to have the worst judgment regarding athletics are weeding themselves out... and being replaced by programs on the upswing, who have made the right decisions and moved themselves up in status. The new conference should give them the ability to rise even higher, as they have shown they CAN make the right decisions. And the Big-12 also-rans will just become the same thing in other conferences.

Big bully Texas "put the screws to Nebraska"? That made me laugh.

Colorado wanted to leave the Big 8 for the PAC 8 twenty years ago, Mizzou has been flirting with the Big 10 for almost as long, and now the SEC since being rejected by them. Don't blame that on UT.

When the Big 12 was created, Texas insisted that partial qualifiers be extremely limited (2 per program). Osborne's dynasty was built on partial qualifiers, so naturally he objected. Not to mention the shady County scholarship program that fed the football team. The majority of the B12 schools voted to restrict the PQs. Texas only had one vote and no national pull. Heck, we were the #3 team in the state.

Texas, in other words, was insisting on higher academic standards for Big 12 recruits. THAT is the reason the hypocrite Osborne started to hate Texas back then. That and the fact that UT dominated them 9-1 in football and was far ahead of them in all sports championships as time went forwward. We blossomed & prospered, the Huskers sadly withered.

Put the screws to Nebraska, indeed....what a joke. But the misinformed Texas haters continue to write that everywhere.

What too many people forget also is the fact that back in 1996, Nebraska, A&M & KSU were the Conference football powers and UT plain sucked. The Huskers had NO problem voting for unequal revenue distribution - when they were getting the most bucks. They continued to vote that way until their last year in the B12.

So most of your stated reasons for hating UT are pure bogus in reality.

The blowhard big head part is true, but that is also true for LSU, Bama, & the SEC in general...and everybody knows it. Arrogant fans? Try USC, tOSU, etc. they've been as bad as any.

A&M left because of it's well-deserved inferiority complex & greed - and few in the Dinky Dozen would deny that. Then they whined & couldn't understand why none of the remaining Texas schools won't schedule them any more. How stupid can those aggys be? THEY are the ones who left, not us! When they reaffirmed their pledge of solidarity with the Big 12 in June of 2010, they were planning to leave the conference for the SEC - and at the same time greedily grabbing the colorado/Husker exit money (which Texas & OU took none & let the remaining schools divy it up). I'd call that dishonest, maybe even fraud.

But what it all unfortunately boils down to is $$$$ - and EVERY school is grabbing as much as they can. UT is NO different in that regard.

Congratulations though, with the aggys you've got another punching bag to beat up on and more opportunity to take their recruits.
