Red Robin has some of the best burgers we have ever eaten on the East Coast. Their prices are comparable to most restaurants. I hope they will continue to have good food and service in Greenville.
I work at the Food Lion next to the Walmart site on 11N. From what we understand, the supercenter will not be happening and a DC will be built in the next 5 years.
Interesting. I wonder if WalMart has ANY distribution centers that are not in very close proximity to an Interstate. Seems to be the norm, though there is a Bausch and Lomb distribution center where I am and we are more than 50 miles from any Interstate. Maybe there is some relation to the new, smaller stores or the continued push to stock more local food products.
Walmart has both Regional Distribution Centers and Grocery Distribution Centers. Wonder if it might be a GDC instead of a RDC? Might make a little more sense with the space but who knows. Given that US 264 is a limited access highway, it still serves very much as a major transportation route

Shelby (Cleveland County) and Pageland, Chesterfield County, South Carolina are examples.

I could see Walmart opening more grocery distribution centers to support more Neighborhood Market stores.
With the sheer number of stores Walmart supports in places that are nowhere near an interstate it's not surprising they'd stick a DC in a seemingly random place.
You can argue that Greenville is the best place for a regional distribution center...it has good access to the northeast part of the state, via 11/64, east towards Washington and south towards Kinston. Not sure how many stores it would support, but besides the large stores in Washington and Williamston, two stores in Greenville, store in Kinston, store in Ahoskie, New Bern...there are a number of the smaller stores popping up, certainly in Greenville...one in Grantsboro now, WM express in Ayden and Snow Hill and certainly the potential for other smaller stores in the East....places like Plymouth, Edenton, and Farmville.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about a Walmart DC being built in Greenville, but I am surprised they didn't (or not going to) build it in Wilson since it's at the crossroads of I-95 and US-264 with I-795 being there serving Goldsboro and it's future extension to I-40 near Faison (access to Wilmington), which would give that hypothetical DC high-speed access in all directions. But then again, I can see the reasons for it being built in Greenville like HP91 mentioned.
