Gander Mountain filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. They own Overton's which, as far as I know, is still headquartered in Greenville.
I had heard the Overton's was going out of business with this? Any truth to that?

Unrelated note, but Rocky Mount has broken ground on their downtown sports/convention complex

Groundbreaking for Rocky Mount sports complex

IMO, this will be big for Rocky Mount. This would have been a perfect facility for Greenville. 175k of space with the ability to create a 5,000 seat arena. There's already plans for a couple of hotels in the immediate area. This will definitely help that city get indoor sports tournaments and another place to have large indoor concerts. I can even see them bidding for the NCHSAA postseason tournaments in the major indoor sports. Congrats to them, but I wish this was going across the street from the Town Commons in Greenville.
I'd keep an eye on Rocky Mnt, Capital City Broadcasting has invested there and they were key players in Durham's renaissance. The CSX station was a nice coup for them too.

Definitely will keep an eye out. I was doing some Google Maps browsing for that location, and I didn't realize how much Rocky Mount has done in the last few years. This arena/convention center is about a block from The Rocky Mount Children's Museum and the Imperial Center Home - Imperial Centre for the Arts and Sciences (old tobacco warehouse complex turned into a Science center, Arts center/museum and performing arts center). These things are going to definitely increase (re)development in their downtown. Glad for them. It does help out the profile of their city, but I am jealous and wish we could find a way to do something like this in the Dickinson Ave area.

I would think Overton's is still worth quite a bit because they're so e-commerce focused. Maybe Gander Mountain will sell Overton's outright.

I agree. If the city could get it's crime under control and get rid of that negative stigma, it could actually be a decent city once again. There's a lot of potential there if they play their cards right.

Trent Lassiter in Selma did Rocky Mount (and eastern NC) a HUGE favor when he organized that massive protest against having the CSX terminal built in Johnston County. That's one time NIMBY-ism actually paid off!

I'm so tired of Greenville.. The place needs to get more tech jobs, get the crime under control, and start preparing highways for future growth. Fix the roads too, that would be nice. I think I'm gonna move to Charleston SC soon enough.

Alright. Charleston's a nice place to live. Greenville is getting better, but still lacking in some areas. Hope you enjoy Charleston!
